I think (or hope) that, to a certain degree, with DDV we can expect IUBB to largely be a developmental program for a core set of players on each roster, then use the portal or land a few McDAA guys to bring in instant impact talent for each team. Even if they don't get a ton of run the first year, filling the roster with shooters and playing them situationally / teaching them the other stuff seems like the right idea. I know we're calling the two euro guys developmental players - and they very likely will be - but I also won't be shocked at all if they play over some other guys thought to be in the rotation more. If we have expected rotation players struggling with the step up in competition, I could easily see some of the Euro kids with professional experience being more ready to contribute, even if in a limited role / with some glaring weaknesses. It's a building year, I think I like the direction, just can't wait to see it in action at this point.6 points -

There’s a logical theme. Woody is an NBA lifer with NBA schemes. When you gave him an NBA level talent he put the player in a good situation. But Kaleb Banks-type development? Not so much.5 points

Also from one of the linked - DeVries: “Andrej is a talented big man that we are excited to get in our program and develop,” DeVries said. “He has good size and is able to score the basketball in different ways. He is strong on the glass and has good defensive instincts and timing when blocking shots.” Looks like a guy who can both bang and step out and hit mid-range and 3's, good instincts. Love seeing pickups for development like this, lots of upside and a Euro pipeline.3 points -

19 years old. Bosnian/Herzegovina basketball is... really pretty good! Almost on par with FIBA teams like France and Serbia. So starting and succeeding on their U-19 team seems like that's a real accomplishment. Seems as though he wasn't nearly as successful on their U-18 team, so hopefully he's a late developer that has recently found a new level. For that senior level Bosnian pro team? In 23 minutes per game he averaged 17.5 pts and 2.3 turnovers. For a big that's a lot of turnovers. Averaged about 15 fg attempts and ten fts per 40 minutes on the pro team. He's clearly not shy when he's on the court. ____________________________________________________________________ This is a young player who will be the 13th on the roster. 100% a developmental get. At this point that is what should be expected. He needs to be a developmental get with an excellent attitude and upside.3 points -

Watched a couple of the highlight videos and he seems a tad slow but some skills. Gives us some much needed frontcourt depth and 5 fouls if nothing else. Don't know the level of competition in his pro league but 17 ppg is not bad. Wondering if he gets here in time for the Puerto Rico trip? That KK MegaBasket team has a lot of size so he would come in handy and also see how he matches up with Luigi Suigo.3 points -

I think Sisley and Dorn will be prospects to be counted on the following year. As far as people leaving? As long as it’s the right ones. This roster will need splashes of talent up and down and I’m not sure the freshman class is strong enough this year to provide that carry. We will need a couple in big impact guys in my estimation.2 points -

I don't know about any of that. What I do know is that Old Fart and you are really pulling for IU to succeed in athletics. For that we fans and readers and posters on this site thank you. (And thanks for pumping sunshine. Pumping that other 54!+ gets really sucky quickly.) We are fans not critics in the summer. You do help us look forward to Hoosier HYSTERIA! I'm generally optimistic. But I get in the doldrums sometimes. And IU basketball really has been off of it's feed more often than not in the last 25 years. Can't help but feeling puny about that. A new coach hire and new roster is a great thing to be optimistic about. Reinventing oneself is sometimes a really good option. Reality may just bite us again. But this is the time for hype leavened by some sense of just how things seem to go when meeting an opponent on the basketball court knowing that they also have a roster of youngsters and veterans that really have put a lot into their skills and the game. A sense of perspective is always a good idea.2 points -

Ya know, I get why they want to keep some lid on this stuff. Practices, private scrimmages, sure. And you know someone like Cal would be all over a streaming charge for practices. But public games with actual tickets for sale? C'mon, it's silly not to make that stuff available.2 points

I think it was more system related than development, but our bigs mostly excelled and our guards didn’t except Hood Schifino, who honestly displayed all the flaws he is having in the league here at Indiana. Inconsistent shooting, lack of explosiveness, etc. I do think the practices were not nearly demanding or grueling enough. Players were mostly soft. Many of them wanted to blame the SC coach for wearing them out instead of overcoming. Excuse making mindset from top to bottom. Some want to pass the buck. Some will just internalize and improve. Improve me before blaming them mentality. Skill development is a bit hard to evaluate in our system besides shot making which was always inadequate.2 points -

Yeah, perfect example of this comes from Wisconsin last year. According to 247 sports, last year they lost the #4 overall transfer AJ Storr and replaced with the #296 player John Tonje Rankings are nice but they're a very unimportant part of the whole picture in terms of winning. Maybe someone like Conerway, Dorn, Miles, Alexis or Harris has a much bigger than anticipated impact next year. Less than two weeks til the first preview of our brand new program. This fresh start is beyond welcomed / very exciting.2 points -

I think whether or not he can actually guard an NBA wing is the reason for the draft projection. His size makes up for a lot in high school and college. But it will be interesting to see how he is used at the NBA level due to the athleticism. They may be projecting him more as a spot up shooter.1 point -

It doesn’t make the slightest bit of sense. If one doesn’t understand by now that it is cheaper to keep your own talent than buy on the open market, you can’t be helped. UK and Arkansas spent a ton last year. And they had coaches bringing over some previous talent. In Arkansas’s case quite a few. UK also loaded up on mid major guys. UK had great metrics but was obviously capped out at a S16 team. Arkansas was a 10 seed. Add in UM and Lville and adjust your expectations accordingly. People or podcasts telling you to expect top 10 based on our spend aren’t cogent enough analysts to waste your time listening to, imo.1 point -

Rim protection, at least in the form of tall guys blocking shots, often looks far better to us fans than it provides actual value to the team. Best case scenario is that the team grossly overpays for a skilled big that is talented at blocking shots. Worst case scenario is that a team grossly overpays for big that is constantly out of position, giving up rebounds and easy buckets while chasing after blocked shots. IF, this team can play good perimeter defense, at least marginally competent post defense, and rebound, then they will be fine. The rebounding worries me the most.1 point -

I've not seen anyone make the claim in bold. We also don't know for a fact that our NIL is top 10, just more than WVU's. If we have a good season with this roster, would you still question the fit of the coach because he's not bringing in players at the caliber befitting of IUBB? We all agree he came here for the resources to win. You and a handful of others feel strongly they should've been used differently... we will just have to wait and see at this point. If they were used well, if we need more $$ to truly be top 10, etc. will be interesting to see where things stand in a year from now, after a HS recruiting cycle and the season wrap.1 point -

Here's my breakdown. Keep in mind, I believe every game is winnable, but that's just me. Can go our way ODU Kennesaw State Indiana St. MSU Maryland Wisconsin the school a few miles north west of IU. Possible UCLA Questionable Illinois Iowa Long Shots Oregon Penn St The Possible and Questionable category teams can easily be thrown into a hat. I have a feeling UCLA is going to be a lot better this year and both Illinois and Iowa are going to be really tough games for us. I do however think we have a really good shot at beating all of them. If we beat Illinois pretty handily buckle up, our conference season is going to be fun to watch, just like last year. We'll be in the discussion of CFP and Big Ten championship and both Oregon and PSU will be coin-flip games. If we lose or win close to Illinois, we'll be in some dog fights with the Questionable and Long Shots. But that doesn't mean we will lose. I truly believe we can win every game on the schedule. We've upgraded on both sides of the ball from a CFP team that had a two loss season to the CFP champion and CFP runner-up. Just like last year folks are overlooking IUFB this pre-season and I think we'll turn heads again this season. The Herbstreits will no longer bad mouth IUFB and will have to eat a poop ton of crow. I will be disappointed if we don't win 8 or 9 games. And honestly, I'll be upset if we lose any game. I haven't felt this confident with IUFB, ever. We've got a solid football team this year and our defense will win the important games for us.1 point
