  1. Did anyone else notice the reason for the negativity has gone from this looks like a desperate move that will lead to creaning to if a lot of high majors are interested(if factual) then Archie has no shot. This fan base can be so laughable Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

  2. And you wrote it off as a 'Crean like desperation move' on a wasted scholarship player. I think it's ironic that you are saying others jumped the gun. All of this on a guy who doesn't have an offer....

  3. The collective freak out when Morton chose Purdue is what's not helpful, because it's clear that it was for nothing. Everybody was reacting based off of outdated rankings, even though it was clear that he was being passed on the AAU circuit. People were so desperate to believe that we were losing our recruiting momentum that they were reacting without facts, and as it turned out, getting up in arms about nothing. Morton had clearly become less of a priority, and it's now evident why. Evaluations change, and Morton's changed quickly, both for Archie and for the scouting industry. I was pretty sure before that Archie had backed off, and seeing these rankings I'm almost positive now. He's now nearly the lowest ranked player that we'd be pursuing (Galloway is just 2 spots behind him). If Morton had committed to Indiana, and then his ranking had fallen 60+ spots, people on this board would be freaking out about how Archie prioritized the wrong guy, and now we're stuck with an overrated guard when there are so many others that we could be pursuing. Yes, there's still a chance that Morton spurned IU even though Archie told him he was a top target and chose Purdue. But what's more likely? 1. A guy who had IU listed as one of his top schools and had scheduled a visit then deciding to skip the visit and not even include IU in his top 4 schools, or 2. a coach deciding to prioritize guys that were more skilled and had clearly surpassed Morton? The only way 1 is realistic is if Archie did something to completely infuriate Morton, and that seems extremely unlikely.

  4. Well, that kid outside of the top 200 has moved up to 89 while the player we lost to our arch rival dropped to 121. Archie isn't getting desperate. He knows what he's doing.

  9. Exactly. Offers for Jake Forrester included: Seton Hall, Indiana, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Miami (FL), Minnesota, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Kansas State, Central Florida, Providence, Penn State, and Temple. Ranked #147 by 247 compositie. Offers for Grant Gelon included: No other D1 offers when he signed. Ended up ranked #391. Offers for Tim Priller: Incarnate Word Offers for Jeremiah Priller: Don't think he had any D1 offers. Saying Forrester 'wasn't good' is a ex post facto point. Saying Priller, April, and Grant weren't good was an ipso facto statement. BIG difference. Should also be mentioned that Miller wanted Forrester to redshirt. It was Forrester and his dad that balked at it.

  11. Um, okay. None of them have offered him in June before he starts his senior year of high school. We'll see who offers him before he makes his final decision. My guess, he'll be playing high level D1 basketball, even if it's not at IU. I won't be surprised if "idk why Archie would want this kid" turns into "yet another miss by Archie, no momentum" if he goes elsewhere.

  12. Nah. You all have access to the Summerball Talent Rating and Observation Metric (the S.T.R.O.M.), which accurately predicted both the rise of Cross and the fall of Morton.

  14. He was a freshman. Not all freshmen are ready to contribute from day 1. He wasn't a top 25 recruit. People talk a lot about how they want to "get old and stay old", but then they cast players off as terrible when they don't immediately contribute. Plenty of players who played sparingly their first year or two went on to make great contributions as upperclassmen.

  15. Name an offer that Archie has given which seemed like a huge stretch. The fact that Jake didn't pan out doesn't mean he was a stretch offer. Yes, not every guy that comes to Indiana is going to work out as hoped, but if Archie continues to target and attract the types of guys he's gotten so far, he'll be successful overall. No coach is batting 1.000 in recruiting. Jake was always going to be a longer term project, and he didn't want to stick around and wait. That's not a shot at him, he's welcome to do whatever he thinks is best for himself, but I don't think he was much worse than expected his freshman year. I expected him to be the last guy off the bench. But he had offers from 21 schools, including Miami, Seton Hall, Xavier, Virginia Tech, etc., and was a top 150 player. He was an in-demand player. Similarly, Damezi may have had a bad freshman year, but he was a fringe top-100 guy. Nobody said that he couldn't play coming out of high school. Maybe it's Archie's fault that he didn't develop, maybe it's Damezi's, maybe he just needs more time, but he was being recruited by high major schools too. Judging recruiting success by how guys perform their freshmen years is not a good way to do it. Hopefully Damezi turns it around. Maybe he ends up a complete bust, but plenty of guys have gone from inconsequential freshman years to being valuable players.

  16. Are you talking about Forrester? Because while he wasn't ready to consistently play as a freshman, he had some good moments that makes it reasonable to believe he could've played as an upperclassman. That transfer seemed to have more to do with Big Daddy Cornbread than it did Forrester not being any good.

  22. What? This isn't true. Over the past four years we've played UNC once and Duke three times. Florida State went 29-8 last year and finished 4th in the ACC. This has much, much more to do with switching up the matchups than it does them "realizing we're not on the level of the big programs anymore". We already play Louisville, and we've been matched up with two of the other marquee ACC teams each of the past four years. It's not like they put us against someone like Wake Forest.

  23. I didn't see anybody saying we needed to sign this guy ASAP, just that he was worth looking into. Nobody knew that other schools were pursuing him, but it seemed likely that he was a solid player. Archie's coaching deserved some criticism this year, and missing out on some recruits was not great, but he's not made any desperation offers, and there was no reason to think this one was either. Now that seems to be confirmed. If Archie wants a guy, the track record would say that he's probably pretty good.

  26. Why should we go full court press on Leal and Galloway over Cross? I don't know why Cross shot up the rankings, but given that the people putting together these lists do it for a living, I'm guessing there's more to it than being "the best player on a crappy AAU team". Your opinion before was based off his ranking, but now that his ranking has improved 100+ spots, it doesn't mean much? Why not? This isn't Archie pulling a Crean and offering a Tim Priller type of player. Cross is a solid player who brings some of the personality traits, such as toughness, that we've been wanting in IU basketball players. Rankings aren't everything, and just because he's top 100 now doesn't guarantee he's going to be a good college player, but it does show that he's not a recruit Archie is reaching for because he's getting desperate.

  31. The optics look bad to a bunch of people who don't know anything. I'm not taking a shot at anyone in particular, but nobody on this board really knows how these recruits are performing in terms of rising and falling throughout the year until these lists come out, other than some random anecdotes we hear from the Evan Daniels and Brian Snows of the world. It looked desperate to you and others because you were putting stock into static recruiting rankings. You looked at Morton as top 50 and Cross outside the top 200, but Archie and his staff are obviously constantly evaluating potential players. By the time they offered Cross and Morton committed to Purdue, their evaluations had gone in completely different directions. Also, I'm not saying that we should put full faith in recruiting rankings, but Cross is ranked significantly higher than Leal or Galloway. Why would Archie prioritize those guys and then see if he can find a fit for the best player of the 3?

  32. People criticize the Fitzner offer way too much. That scholarship is already off the books and was going to go unused last year if not given to Fitzner. While Fitzner was underwhelming, there was no downside to putting him on scholarship. Because of injuries he played more than he should have and got exposed, but he was still more valuable than an empty scholarship would have been.

  34. He camped this past weekend. Asked my buddy who was at the camp and he was supposedly one of the fastest timed kids there in most drills. Ran a 4.4 forty. Seems to be a hidden gem. Looks to have great length. Shows he’s not afraid to hit in his film or at least get into contact situations. If Shelby believes he is worthy of an offer. Then let’s go boys. #6 on the board with officials coming up the next three weekends get the cannons ready.

  36. Your first post on the subject: "Out of curiosity what exactly screams contributor to people here? No other schools with interest" I'll sit back and wait how this post doesn't scream of calling it a desperation recruit. So let's add on the following tidbits that you have said here: 1. you are apparently not defining 'creaning' as anyone on here does. 2. you say 'we don't know if Moore, Forrester, and Curtis Jones weren't 'creaned'' 3. you said that Van Zyl didn't have 'other schools with interest' and an insider posts that there are a dozen high majors with interest, that wasn't met with you by 'guess I was wrong', but rather 'which ones?' What you state as being 'realistic' and not 'pessimistic' simply isn't the case. You express possibility of 'creaning' players with no proof while skepticism when someone actually following the situation of Van Zyl says that he is being followed by multiple HMs.

  39. It’s already been pointed out that Fitzner was a use it or “lose” it. We had an open scholarship and knew we were getting it back the very next year. No Risk hoping for a reward, didn’t pan out but nothing was lost. 41. Except that there is zero evidence to suggest that Archie would be interested in offering a guy who's no good. Crean earned skepticism around his recruiting offers. 50. Sadly, the program feels like it has zero momentum. I’m not counting on Archie surprising me. So yeah, I’m a little worried. Until our administration changes, I don’t even care who our coach is. Coach K couldn’t win at Indiana with this administration. It seems the Keion Brooks recruitment was kinda the figurative nail in our program’s “momentum” coffin. The Langford experiment and the historic losing streak didn’t help matters either. My attitude towards the basketball team is shifting to how I root for IUFB. Root for wins but expect losses. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners mobile app
