  7. Scout had a rundown of the UNC visit. Sounds like the visit went pretty well overall but there was one quote that stood out to me from dad: “I didn't think, me personally, the North Carolina fans really knew who Romeo was compared to when we went to UCLA. That stood out to me a little bit." EDIT: The whole post is below Top-five guard Romeo Langford picked a good weekend to be at Carolina. Langford, the highest-rated player to take an official visit to UNC since the class of 2015, started his official visit Friday morning. After meetings with academic advisors and the UNC staff, Langford and his family took in "Late Night with Roy," where UNC unveiled the 2017 national championship banner. Saturday consisted of watching the Tar Heels practice, tailgating, a meeting with Roy Williams, and watching UNC football against Virginia. The visit concluded on Sunday, following breakfast with Williams. "The weekend was really exciting," Romeo's father, Tim Langford, told Inside Carolina. "We liked the coaching staff. I liked Roy Williams, and he's a great guy who has a lot of experience. The campus is great, too. I didn't think, me personally, the North Carolina fans really knew who Romeo was compared to when we went to UCLA. That stood out to me a little bit." "But, I think it was a great visit. We liked their style of play. I liked what Roy Williams was saying his expectations are about what Romeo can contribute to the team. (UNC's 2018 commitments) Leaky (Black) and Coby (White) being there was a plus, too." Williams told the family he'd utilize Romeo Langford, who measured 6-foot-6 at USA Basketball Junior Mini-Camp earlier this month, in a variety of ways. "Before when we've talked, he was saying Romeo reminded him of Danny Green," Tim Langford explained. "He didn't say it this time, but he used a bunch of clips of some of his former guys like (Wayne) Ellington and Justin Jackson, too. He was showing, through them, what it would look like for Romeo at Carolina." During the UNC practice on Saturday morning, Tim Langford said he appreciated Williams's consistency. "I like Coach Roy Williams," Tim Langford said. "His style of practice is low key, and it wasn't just because we were there. (When) we visited last year he was pretty much the same. He wants the best, and he's going to push the kids. That's what I want for my son - someone to bring out the best in him." Langford's versatility makes it less likely a potentially crowded backcourt at UNC would hinder its chances at signing him. "They have guys who may leave or who may not, but that's not a big factor for us at all," said Tim Langford. "Romeo, it doesn't make a difference who the man is or anything like that. His style of play is a lot different from players I've seen ranked in the top 10. He's known for doing multiple things well. We want him to be around good players, and really good kids, too. I like the way Leaky plays the game, and he's a really good point guard. I like how (Nassir) Little and Coby play the game. The freshmen big men that they have this season, as far as their maturity going into next year, that's a plus to us as a family moving forward, too." Romeo Langford has already taken official visits to Vanderbilt and UCLA, in addition to North Carolina, and has two official visit slots remaining. "When we get done with these five official visits, our plan is to narrow it down to three," Tim Langford said. "But if he feels there's a team that's stood out, we'll go for it, but right now (signing in) the spring is the plan." After this past weekend, North Carolina improved its chances of being in Langford's final three. "The thing we like about Roy Williams...we want to come into a university and win a national championship," said Tim Langford. "You have your personal goals, but you're coming to college to win a national championship. Like right now in high school, Romeo's goal isn't to be the all-time leading scorer in the Indiana record books or anything like that. He wants to win a state championship more than anything. That's what I like about Roy Williams, he speaks on winning national championships. Everything I've taught my son about playing the game is about team. Everything he's accomplished, it comes from within the team, because he's a team-first guy. What you do on the court will speak for itself. I taught my son that, and Roy Williams believes that." 9. Love that he's making so many visits. Gotta think we're in the driver's seat right now. Rabby is saying he'll be surprised if he commits before the end of his junior year, but adds that IU is in "terrific" position.

  12. For all of you people who think we are EVER going to be Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, or whoever....or be able to beat those teams on a consistent basis; I wonder what's putting that thought in your head. Those schools are college football blue bloods. They get 100,000 people in their stadiums every weekend. They always recruit top 10 classes in the country. Why on Earth would you blame losing to them on coaching or "same old IU?" Indiana is Indiana. Only for a few years during the Mallory era when the stars aligned properly were we able to compete with the likes of these schools. You really believe coaching hires is the reason? You really believe this is some kind of traditional weakness? I've been going to Indiana football games for 40 years. My dad took me when I was very small; and I can tell you with unequivocal confidence this brand of football is MILES better than some of what this program has put on the field. If some Rutgers basketball fan posted on their board how coaching hires and bad luck/poor decisions was the reason they rarely beat Indiana in basketball, you'd laugh at them. I hate that Indiana's place in Big Ten football is middle of the pack; but it is. Indiana got screwed being out in the best (without ANY question) division in all of college football. There's nothing even close. Indiana will win 6-7 games this season. We will go to a bowl game. We have a defense that's at times struggled against the top teams in the country; but generally dominated the other teams. We shut a team out last week for the first time since 1993, I think. We are ranked #43 in Sagarin's poll BEFORE yesterday's game. Our strength of schedule BEFORE yesterday was 22. You think those are "normal" Indiana numbers, and our usual? You're wrong. Simple as that. If you believe that, you're wrong. Before yesterday's game, our 3 losses are to teams rated #2, #4, and #17 in Sagarin's October 7 poll. Where on Earth do you think Indiana belongs? Sagarin's polls are as objective as polls can be. Numbers are what numbers are. Indiana is rated ahead of Nebraska. Ahead of Iowa State who won at Oklahoma last week. Ahead of Tennessee. Purdue. Colorado, Arizona State, Northwestern. Boise State. West Virginia. Arkansas, Syracuse (you may have seen they won v Clemson Friday). This is somehow not good enough? I'd ask you why? Why would Indiana Football, now in the company of the schools listed above, be expected to beat Michigan? Especially given the players we had injured. Very recently, Indiana used to be in the company of MAC schools and weather vane teams. Teams like Arkansas State; Bowling Green, Southern Miss, Eastern Michigan, Louisiana Monroe, Wyoming, UT San Antonio, etc. That's our football history; or at least the lion's share of it. What is driving the expectation that we all of a sudden deserve somehow to be among the elite programs in the country? We struggle at the quarterback position. We don't have a lot of depth, especially up front where it matters most; and we have a coach who has exactly 7 games under his belt and the only players who are "his" are true freshmen. We're also coming off something of a controversial period when players complained of mistreatment; and we're STILL having success by the standards of this program. Indiana is building depth. It does not yet have that. But we're competing (generally) with 3* kids against programs with 5* kids in the most physical game there is and you expect to beat them. Why? Based on what? Indiana is the 4th/5th best team in the toughest division in college football; and has lost to the top 3; all of whom expect to play on New Year's Day; and two probably have a shot to play in the BCS games. We are not in that company. We're just not. The schedule gets a lot easier now. Let's see where we are in 6 weeks.

  13. You ever think oh hey we are a decent team and i am just being a typical IU football fair weather fan, but nah lets write off this season and be surprised that we beat Virginia at their place Looks like I get to touch on this topic again...yay.....so Looking back at some comments. It's really pathetic seeing people write off this team once again. We are 3-3 yes we had chances yesterday but some of yall thought we were gonna get trounced and rolled over.... Well we didn't we fought back and actually played a 4th qtr against a talented defense. So everyone stop the whining because I gurantee you didn't expect IU to be 6-0, 5-1,4-2.....I bet you said 3-3 is where we will probably be. Or even 2-4 thinking we would lose on the road to an ACC team. So stop all this woe is me bull crap. Once again tom allen has this team going in the right direction. Kevin wilson couldn't break throught but we expect Tom to do it in his first 3 big ten game....or if he doesn't the fan base throws a fit about not going anywhere. Well I'm sorry we are going places and if you don't wanna be on that train don't get on it. We have a nice schedule coming up and I think we can get to 6 even 7 wins. on another note this is how messed up IU fans are. I got yelled at yesterday to sit down and stop cheering after good plays for IU (this guy was rooting for IU). He goes I paid $70 for these seats....I said that's nice and kept standing. Support the team in big games....sheesh go Hoosiers and keep your heads up

  14. Hmm. Maybe he's there today to get his shots done in uniform by the old center court wall, like Forrester. That way his commitment tweet will be looking all professional on Saturday. If this is real (there sure is a lot of smoke here), then we should all be thrilled. He's higher than any recruit since Deron Davis in November, 2015. Archie's highest commitment ever. Another message that signing with Indiana is big. A rising big man from Indiana that can't wait to commit. This is awesome.

  17. We have a lot of QB's. Ultimately the best one will play. If he plays better than Ramsey or Tronti, then he will be the QB. I'd be fine with Ramsey going forward if that's the teams plans, but it's not like he's been setting the world on fire and is a sure fire future NFL prospect. If Taylor comes in and shows out they'll make that decision. All I know is what's been pointed out in this thread that they told him to expect to get a shot at QB.

One could argue Crean not landing Shake, or Bryant Crawford or even Jalen Fisher could of been the beginning of the end for his time as IU’s coach Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  26. Actually he will at least to start the off season and fall camp. IU coaching staff told him he is one of their QB recruits for this class he is no longer their athlete or being recruited as a DB. Coaches have told him he will be given a chance to earn a spot at QB. They want the ball in his hands as much as they can get it there.

  27. Garland enjoyed “ridiculous’ visit to Big Blue Madness. He was impressed with the practices and here is a shocker had nice things to say about the school he was visiting. They want him to play along Quickley which he has done in Italy so he says it wouldn’t be a problem. Says all teams are equal at this point. This is all according to a VIP article on the Kentucky website. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners

  28. Yup. In today's game, PG is absolutely the most important position. Elite PG's get their teams to Final Fours.

  29. Nothing new for me from this visit. This is why I have said Garland is almost just as important if not more important because without him we may not get Romeo. This year will be play big too. If we play well and it looks like we could be a factor next year, Romeo could see himself as the missing piece. I think we're in a great spot.

  46. I'm not going to say we will or won't get a bowl game. I think anybody being honest with themselves had us at 3-3 right now. And the path to a bowl game always included the back end of our big ten schedule. We have 4 winnable conference games left. Just have to win 3 of them.

  48. With what quarterback? So many here are low on Lagow; and seems to want Ramsey. He is not capable of running a pro style offense. Michigan's defense is exceptional. I know everyone's tired of being close, as am I; but so much needs to be taken into account. Indiana's right there with some good teams. Why does anyone get upset if Allen gets emotional?? We've been through Gerry DiNardo for the love of God. Guy wants to be here and wants Indiana to do well. Be thankful we have a good coach who wants to be HERE.
