They also hired Tucker and told him to run Lovie Smith's defense which he knew nothing about.  The guy was in way over his head.

Bears fan also. Otherwise, I probably would’ve left the “friggin” out. No one has been inexplicably hired more than Mel friggin’ Tucker.

Mack Brown out at North Carolina. 

Have already seen reports that Matt Campbell (Iowa State) is expected to be the top target. 

That guy's been a hot commodity over the past few years.

Seems as if he could do better than UNC -- but you never know. If they pony up enough money ...

I wonder if he has ties to North Carolina.  If not, I’d hold out for a B1G or SEC job if I were him.

He’s originally from Massillon, Ohio…played at Pittsburgh then transferred to University of Mt. Union in Alliance, Ohio where he played defensive line.  Was an assistant coach at Toledo, Bowling Green, Mount Union…and then named HC at Toledo, then Iowa State.  His main ties are in Ohio, I would guess.

Campbell has turned down Notre Dame and NFL opportunities, if national writers are to be believed. I have a feeling the Massillon kid that graduated from Mount Union is waiting for either the Ohio State or Steelers job to come open.

In terms of Ohio State/Oregon.....if Michigan were to somehow beat Ohio State, then Penn State will be in the conference championship unless they were to lose to Maryland.  

Now that would be a nightmare scenario because us losing to Oregon in the big champ game would bounce us. But absent that I think we’re in. The committee may shaft us on the ranking though

The committee has intimated previously that losing a conference championship game would not effect a team making or missing the CFP.

IMO, the conference championship games should have some bearing -- otherwise, why are they being played?  That said, for IU to be the Big Ten championship, both Ohio State and Penn State would have to lose (and in Penn State's case, to Maryland).  IU would move ahead of Penn State and I don't see how Penn State could move back ahead of IU considering IU's losses would be to two of the best teams.

They do have some bearing. The winner gets an automatic bid which might be the only team for everyone who isn't the B1G and SEC. The top 4 autobids get a bye. So they definitely matter. 

It also makes sense to me that losing wouldn't be held against a team. It's an extra game against someone who is obviously good and just getting to the game is an accomplishment in and of itself. If a team is pretty much in the CFP should that loss knock them out maybe in favor of another team simply because that other team played fewer games?

IMO, a loss in the conference championship should matter.  If, say, SMU gets obliterated in the ACC championship game, why should that be ignored?  They are either going to play MIami or Clemson -- neither of which they played in the regular and that would be the best team they had played all year.

BTW, one note:  Clemson has been gaining in the polls....yet they have only beaten one Big 4 team that is bowl eligible -- and that team -- PIttsburgh, has now lost four straight games.

IU at #10 means that they would currently be the 11 seed -- but the 12 seed is going to be a conference champion, which means they have IU as the last at large team.

IMO, they are basically setting it up so that they can say the winner of the Clemson/South Carolina team gets an 'impressive win' and a chance to leap frog Indiana.

I think it’s very likely that at least one of the teams ranked 5-9 doesn’t win this weekend.
