That widely depends on the ACC champion, right? If ND is selected over any team that beat them in the head-to-head with the same record, then the CFP world will explode. It's time for them to join a conference, it might work in their favor this year but as @Hoosierfan2017 said above if ND remains independent, any P4 team who schedules them outside of Miami/USC would be fools.

It's a plausible scenario being the conferences are so big now. Also add the lack of respect they get from the CFP committee. They let a 3 loss SEC team in over 3 P4 schools and ND with better records last year. Turned out the 2 and 3 loss SEC schools in the CFP last year probably should have never been invited in the first place. Maybe that changes this year but who knows.

Possible ACC scenarios could have multiple teams finish 11-1 and 12-0.

So many ACC Championship games with my SMU and Miami question:
Va Tech (11-1)  v  Clemson (12-0)
Virginia (11-1) v Va Tech (11-1)
UofL (11-1) v Georgia Tech (12-0)
FSU (11-1) v Duke (11-1)
So on and so forth.

Miami only got in last year *because* they scheduled ND. Without that win and some other luck, they’re not even in the playoffs. Most likely the same with Oklahoma.

In 2024, every team but IU in the playoffs had at least one P5 conference opponent noncon and most of them lost at least one game. Clemson lost all theirs but won the ACC.

There’s always 2 loss conference teams jockeying at the end. The ones with nonconf wins get preference, just like the college basketball committee.  ESPN controls the committee and then and the other TV networks want to see big games. They’re not going to punish teams for them.  And if IU doesn’t want to other teams will continue to schedule big noncon games. Texas, Bama, Georgia, OSU, Michigan, Oregon, etc…all have them again this year.

BTW, if you want ND out of the playoffs the easiest way is for teams to schedule them like last year. They have NIL. Letting them schedule 12 nobodies will just result in them going 12-0 and the committee selecting them. Every. Single. Year. Miami and A&M weren’t even ask that great last year and both beat ND and went to the playoffs while ND stayed home.

I completely understand your point here. But I don't agree with it. 12 non P4 wins will be scrutinized. It'll be a hard sell convincing a committee they are a top 12 school in the nation. Especially if they manage to lose to a Northern Illinois along the way because I have a hard time believing they'll go 12-0 every single year. I also believe it'll be a hard sell to land recruits with such a soft schedule.

I agree with you but the $$ NBC TV deal + several P4 games of high notoriety (USC, Miami) give them a good selling point for recruits. There's no way that they can remain independent in my opinion. The NBC deal is up in 2029.

Simply make a conference affiliation a prerequisite for inclusion in the playoffs. How many notable independents are there?

My comment was only if ND didn't have a P4 school on their schedule. If they get blackballed by P4 conferences, which could happen sooner than later, they'll just be an independent school with a rich history compared to the likes of late 19th and early 20th century Yale. They'll get dropped like a bad habit by NBC and any other potential media outlet.

The sooner the better.

Well, knock me over with a feather.

All of it was grandstanding. Meanwhile other 2022 kids that didn’t go to the draft or participate in nfl preseason are held hostage by the courts. What a disaster.

Wow, so the best portal QB Belichick could get was Billy Edwards? Mediocre Maryland dude and nonstarter at Wisky?
UNC can now be officially labeled a poverty program.

Hey, they're the 33rd team!....of the ACC.

Sonny Dykes getting his wish; his new ‘not-Hoover’ qb had no interceptions in the first half.

On the other hand, his new ‘not-Hoover’ qb had 80 total yards and no touchdowns against a crappy UNC team.

Did you hear the broadcast where Dykes said he has rarely had a “1 of 32” guy. Another shade thrown at Hoo Hoo Hoover

Cig and Hoover will not likely ever play against a Sonny Dykes coached team, but if they did it would be spectacular. I’m a full-on Belechik fan this afternoon.
