And I cannot imagine that Va Tech with Franklin will have a say in those 38 PSU commits that IU is going after.

I imagine the later Franklin gets hired the better on that front. It won’t matter for some I’m sure, but just depends on the relationships.  Got a feeling VT is gonna put some serious money behind their next football hire.

When Tom Allen was fired by IU a $15mm settlement was reached with no “claw back” if he found another job As we know he found 7 figure  jobs at PSU, and then Clemson, and was able to keep all the 15mm and the incremental cash.

It sounds like Franklin is going to Va Tech and getting a large contract. Unlike Allen’s deal, PSU’s payout to Franklin is reduced by whatever he makes at Va Tech.  Bottom line is that PSU owing Franklin 50mm is a good headline but they most likely won’t be paying him much of anything beyond what he is owed for the balance of this season.

I’m just glad he’s staying in conference

Me too.

Nebraska beats Maryland by three, gets killed by Minnesota, beats Northwestern by a TD and Ruhle parlays that into a big extension..LOL.  I realize it was to fend off PSU but I don’t think PSU would have truly wanted to hire him.

I feel 1,000% better about the extension IU put together for Cig.

The question is, with all the huffing and puffing the Gov of LA is stating about Kelly being owed all that money, does Kelly find another one and take some of that sting off of LSU from owing him a chunk of change?

So now it’s Urban for PSU? Okay…. I would’ve thought after Sandusky that they might want someone with a bit of a cleaner slate, but whatever

They did with Bill O'Brien and Franklin, but they didn't get the results they wanted.  They are now looking to be lowering those standards a bit.

Doesn't look as if Matt Ruhle will be heading back to State College.

Signed an extension through 2032 ...

When was Cig’s extension announced, couple of weeks ago? And at signing it made him, what, the 5th highest paid coach in the country, something like that? By New Year’s Day he won’t be in the top 10. Pretty nuts.

If he does well enough in the CFP, IU will contractually obligated to make him top 3. I hope that happens.

It's kind of great that IU giving Cignetti that extension upped the amount that Nebraska has to pay for a coach who isn't nearly as good.

Welp, if they’re willing to cough up $50 million to send Franklin packing (at least until Franklin finds another job) they may be willing to hire someone with a “colorful” past if they feel he can get them over the proverbial hump.

…currently 3rd highest paid.

They would have to be ashamed of what they did for it to change their behavior

Wow that's a wild stipulation.  If multiple schools require top 3 pay, how does that work?

I was wondering that today.  IU is required to have a top 10 assistant pay pool.  But what happens if 11 schools do that

By the time the team has finished playing in the CFP semifinal, most of the coaching carousel should be mostly settled, especially for schools that would hire a highly paid coach. The contract also says "good faith" which indicates that it would be the top 3 for Cignetti and top 5 (B1G)/ 10 (nationally) for the staff at the time. If others get raises after, IU still  made the good faith effort which is within the terms of the contract.

To the surprise of no one LSU is firing their AD.

They will now owe him a $6.4M buyout, which is pretty funny.

Also, an fyi to LSU: our excellent AD is not available!

That is what is nice about having an alumnus and has been in the department basically his adult life.  We can be pretty confident he isn't going anywhere.

He was removed from LSU's coaching search, and now the the athletic director will be removed his job.

This was pretty much the only conclusion this could come to ...

Been thinking about this a fair bit: If Cig hadn’t done what he’s done, say 5-7 last year  and trending to 7-5 this year, something like that, how many of these guys would have actually been fired at this point rather than just being under pressure? Kelly, Franklin, Napier, hell , even Pittman, would they have just been straight cut loose mid-season? I find it pretty hard to believe they would. But these donors and AD’s see this  guy turn a dreck program into THIS and they look at their guy and say WTH.

Cig is literally ending careers. Dude’s the Grim Reaper.
