Popular Post Alford Bailey Posted April 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 25, 2016 I'm fine with this. Crean hasn't brought in tranfers to sit so tells me he is good enough to play. Probably wont be as good as good Troy or as bad as bad Troy. Bobman1, at33iu, HoosierAloha and 10 others 13 Quote

I'm not sure what you aren't understanding or believing here as coaches have laid it out there for you and it hasn't sunk in so I think I am wasting my time. You've heard it from coaches and I've heard it from a player. It's a real problem that Could be minimized I think it's important to note that while you use my information from some disgruntled coaches, they are the minority. Yes, I agree it's a problem. It's a problem because that minority yells about it and has made it one. Reasonable minds can disagree. WayneFleekHoosier, IUsafety and mamasa 3 Quote

Then you may not be "all in" for quite a little while, Alaska. Freddie is raw, and he's going to be our 10th or 11th man next year. He's in line behind TB, DrD, CH, OG, and JM for frontline minutes. If he can be a completely solid citizen, turn into a practice plus this year, and develop enough to give us a little good run if injuries hit, he will be a great get this year. By next year he can hopefully be a big energy source for the '17-'18 team. HoosierAloha, Hoosiers219 and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote

Popular Post hoosierwhodey Posted April 25, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 25, 2016 One thing to keep in mind is that he isn't replacing Troy. OG will slide into that role. Freddie just needs to give us what OG did last year, which is energy and D off the bench. IUsafety, Dalton26, Stuhoo and 6 others 9 Quote

Freddie can fill his role effectively for two years, something a freshman with high expectations might not be as tuned in to doing from day one. Quote

I'd still rather keep Troy but looking at it as OG taking over for Troy rather than Freddie taking over for Troy eases my concerns. Quote
HoosierAloha Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Not really sure how I feel about this. If Troy stays in the draft: - Freddie adds depth behind OG, Hartman, and JMor on the wing/stretch 4. - Tremendous athlete who could be a plus rebounder and defender - Two year commitment If Troy returns: - Might be 5th or 6th on depth chart at the wing or stretch 4 - Will he be happy with so little time - Fewer ships for great 2017 class Anyways, congrats Freddie. It should be interesting to see how he develops and how he is used in the rotation. Sent from my iPhone using BtownBanners Quote
akhosrof Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 I love this addition to the team. You can never have too many 6'6"-6'8" wings who can guard, crash the boards, and run the court. Depth has hurt us the past couple of seasons. Because of injuries last season our bench was depleted. Our starters got in foul trouble which takes away from the team's aggressiveness. This season we will have a deep bench. More fouls to give. More bodies to play defense, more shooters. Crean loves to use the athletic, long wing players. It depends on if the guys buy in. OG bought in and his impact on the game went well beyond the stat line. McSwain can have that same impact this season. Both OG and Morgan got significant minutes as freshmen. In the NCAA tournament we still could have used another athletic wing or two. No doubt McSwain will be in the rotation, even if Troy comes back. OG, Morgan and McSwain can all guard the wing, or play as a stretch four if we want to run the court. I'm excited to see all the different lineup combinations next season. I would still love to pick up a true back-up Center via Grad transfer, a la Max. Quote
Old Friend Posted April 26, 2016 Posted April 26, 2016 Kid was all conference, all region, and the MVP of his regional post season tournament. I think he's got some upside, and probably some ability. Better than Hanner or so it would seem; and he has the ability to step out and shoot it. Perhaps he's Steve Hart? (A little bigger) Who knows? I still say Indiana is better without Williams. One man's opinion. ALASKA HOOSIER and GloryDays 2 Quote
Popular Post Stuhoo Posted April 26, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 26, 2016 I just listened to the podcast interview of his junior college coach. The athleticism that the coach described is a given, but the thing that impressed me the most which was not a given is that Freddie is a gym rat who has improved exponentially since he started playing the game of basketball. The coach described an extremely gracious and humble kid who is loved by teachers, classmates, and opponents, but that when Freddie gets between the lines of the basketball court the switch flips and he plays with incredible passion. Finally, he said that Freddie was way under the radar because he lived in small-town Georgia where the only game in town was football, and so that's what Freddie played until his junior year of high school. Once he started playing basketball, he never touched the AAU circuit. The coach said that by the time he committed to Indiana Freddie had piled up 25 Division I offers.
