Popular Post HoosierAloha Posted January 10, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 10, 2016 I know it was a good overall performance but I liked Crean still coaching up 30. Yogi had a string of bad possessions, not getting back on D after missing a layup. He was yanked. Troy had a soft careless pass that was stolen for an easy layup. He got yanked. I would like to see this going forward even when we're in a closer game. raorIU, Crimson and Cream, USMCHoosier and 10 others 13 Quote
Popular Post rebelhoosier848891 Posted January 10, 2016 Popular Post Posted January 10, 2016 After some time to reflect---this was a great statement game for the program that we are still relevant and still a contender worthy of national discussion. I again love seeing the toughness we came out with today as OSU is extremely long and athletic and we did not let them dominate us. I felt llike Hartman Troy and RoJo had great bounce-back games and broke out of their recent funks to power us today. Hartman was his old self--everywhere and hitting open 3's--even had nice drives to the hole. RoJo's stat line was ridiculously good as was his defense. Troy was under control but still playing at light speed where no one can quite handle him. Good to see Troy hit some 3's too. The freshmen were great again. All three did incredible things led by Bryant's double-double (18 and 13). I hope we are seeing a new offensive staple/emphasis--getting the ball to Bryant in the paint as he will usually score or get fouled. OG gave us an instant spark when he entered the game bringing energy and some D, points, and boards. Juwan was solid as well. We have post defense with our new rotations. Yogi was Yogi and did not force as much today. He was great in spurts as well. Our less athletic players struggled against OSU--Max and Z3 had rough days. No worries here as Max and Z3 will be back as not every team is as long as the Buckeyes. Z3 is in a shooting funk----0/7 from 3 today but may never miss that many threes again. Hopefully he will get his mechanics figured out as they looked a little off today and will get it going again. On a side note---if Zeisloft had been on today it would have been even more of a blowout. It is great that we have the depth to still excel when certain players are not clicking. Turnovers were down and rebounding was up. I can live with 12 turnovers with as fast as we play. I loved the 50 rebounds. We played with energy and passion on BOTH ENDS OF THE FLOOR ! When our offense and defense are both getting equal attention---that's a recipe for success. O$U is no slouch--a highly rated defensive team that we shredded in the first half. They have to be as shocked as we are. Keep it up Hoosiers. It's a cold, snowy day down here in Southern Indiana but IU's performance today sure made it a lot HOTTER. Keep the fire burning. Let's see if we can repeat this type of performance next game! IndyHutch, USMCHoosier, hyzy and 5 others 8 Quote
biteoftheapple Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Aside from Lyle having a good scoring day, and Z being unable to hit shots, I loved our effort on D, and on the boards. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote
MikeRoberts Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Knowing how inconsistent refs are, they could have called it on the bump on the floor before the shot; which would've given TB a 1-1. In my opinion, he deserved the basket as an IU fan and cuz it was the correct call.if your a betting man, that being called/scored correctly makes a big difference (Vegas over/under) FortWayneHoosier and LIHoosier 2 Quote
Old Friend Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 This game was won on the boards and on the defensive end. Flat out hustled them. And made just enough shots to get OSU out of the game. A 50-31 advantage on the glass says it all. 17 offensive rebounds, 12 of which directly led to baskets says more. Yes, Indiana made a few shots, but still shot just 46% from the floor. Good...not outstanding. We still take too many quick shots and rely on the three pointer (took 30) too much. We still had 12 turnovers, many unforced. We allowed an opponent to score 29 against us. We still missed a ton of free throws (67% not good enough, and I don't think we took enough). Our flaws still ail us, but the effort today was so much better, I don't know that numbers really matter. cappymo14 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 My goodness, what a game! Look at what this team can do when they play D and value the ball. If we have our typical turnover #'s, we are looking at a score closer to 75-70 if not closer. Very pleased with all the guys today. MikeRoberts, IndyHutch and USMCHoosier 3 Quote
Old Friend Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 You have a really hard time being content with anything to do with this team don't you? If facts bother you, ignore me. I don't watch sports for contentment within one game. I see flaws that sometimes get masked by other things, and I still see problems that will be exposed down the road, limiting what this team can accomplish. Like I said, if that bothers you, ignore me. I said I loved the effort and loved that we pounded them on the glass. Does that mean Yogi still didn't take a bunch of bad shots and turn it over 3 times? Does that mean we didn't shoot a low % from the FT line? coonhounds, Bruce038 and USMCHoosier 3 Quote
Bowhunter Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I saw they didn't give Bryant his 2 points on the drive to the hole. Did he officially get credit for that bucket or did they call it a foul on the floor before it went in creating a miss on a 1 and 1? MikeRoberts 1 Quote

lucel15 Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I didn't get to watch it but I did just sit on my couch and listen to the radio broadcast. All I have to say is great team game and chemistry is what it sounded like. I don't want to speak pre maturely but it gives us some light of what could be. Imagine if this team plays with that much heart and that much hustle every game. We could be a late blooming special when it comes to March Madness. I am not saying that we will be world beaters but hey this is the first time in a long time I've "seen" (heard it on the radio) an IU team finish. We can make a run here and build off this..... Might be a good welcome home gift. Since I'll be moving back to Gods country in 10 days IndyHutch, ALASKA HOOSIER, HoosierAloha and 2 others 5 Quote
yogisballin Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Did Crean say that Bryant wasn't 18 yet? That was the way I took it Quote

The Ola Depot Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Serious question about score keeping. It didn't matter today as it was a blowout, but what happens if a scorekeeper, refs, players, coaches, announcers don't notice the score is wrong as it was today? Can a score change after a game ends? Can you lose a game that you rightfully won because a scorekeeper mistake? Point is, IU scored 87 and it was marked as 85 and was never corrected or noticed by anyone. Never counted TB's bucket at 2:45 markIf you're referring to the shot that Bryant made after he got fouled, the ref that stands by Crean made the call and he waved off the basket. MikeRoberts 1 Quote
yogisballin Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 The only negative I see out of today is Nick Zeisloft struggling to hit from deep. He's definitely in a funk right now, hopefully the layover between today and Saturday at Minnesota helps him right the ship. See no benefit to him being on the floor at this time. Dating back to the Notre Dame game. He is 6-29 from 3pt and 7-31 overall. Other than the defense staying with him to respect his jumper. Really doesn't help IU. Other negative from today is Max, kid looked so lost out there. Overall I'm impressed with our progress in playing team defense. After our win the other night against Wisky I still wasn't overly impressed but after seeing the MD vs Wisky game yesterday, I'm starting to feel better about us. We are most definitely a better "team" without JBJ. On both ends of the floor! Really hate to single one kid out and he is an unbelievable talent offensively. Hopefully he can understand defensive positioning and etc while sitting out. The biggest part of our improvement on the defensive end is TB. Defending that P-N-R significantly better. Also you can see they are communicating more on that end. Love seeing our effort right now. Parakeet Jones 1 Quote

What I love about this post is that it is so Bob Knight. The reality is, we could do better at all of those things but you will likely never see a complete game. This was an outstanding defensive effort which led to a lot of easy offense. Quote
