(2016) SG Grant Gelon commits to IU

I dont understand why we as fans are so quick to write players off. Every year it happens and then every year there are nice surprises. I know there have been just as many players who come in and are duds but I just think back to Zeisloft, Beilfeldt, and OG. All have been recent additions that everyone was so against and thought they weren't talented enough then they have performed well here. Who knows what Gelon is going through but we need to at least give him the benefit of the doubt till we see him play here

Don't remember a single person being against OG or Beilfeldt

programs have a lot of success if they can bring in solid 3-4 stars and they stay all 4 years just like they can have success with 5 stars one and done. Look at Iowa, no big recruits, but mid recruits now upcomer classmen, and playing great.

The problem is, Creanie will cut them or make them transfer.

I saw this kid play last year. Great shooter, reminded me of Todd Leary type shooter. He rebounds good for a High School kid that is 6'4 playing against smaller kids.

I would love to see him get redshirted his freshman year, but Crean doesn't seem to use the redshirt....

I also think Creanie thinks he needs a shooter to spread his offense, and is why he grabbed him up...

That honestly just doesn't make any sense. The majority of the players Crean has ever brought in are "solid 3-4 stars" that stay all 4 years. Look at our recruiting class from last year. OG and Morgan fall into that category. Collin Hartman falls into that category. We have solid contributors on our team that fall into that category

Also, You mention Iowa not having any big time recruits but half of their starting five were ESPN top 100 recruits. Woodbury was a top 50 recruit and had offers from OSU, Wisconsin, UNC, and Stanford amongst others.

This could be very well taken out of context & be like the #1 dumb thing I've ever posted... But..... Russell Westbrook averaged .3 ppg his freshman year at UCLA, now look at him. You never know how a kid will adjust, work, and grow as a player. The star ratings are over used. I thought we've seen enough examples of star power doesn't matter here at Indiana. Vic, OG, Max.||||||| Hollowell, Perea, Robinson.

Hartman is a Jr...he should be really good next year....OG and Morgan are exactly right, if they stay 4 years they will be really, really good.

Woodbury was a low 4 star high 3 star recruit...and he is a senior. my point. stayed 4 years. He is also 7'1 and you can't teach height so kind of the exception...

I'm not saying this kid will be great, good, or bad. It's too hard to tell.

most of Iowa's players are not big time recruits, but Woodbury was. He was a top flight recruit that was a really big deal for them.

Lol he was not a low 4 or high 3 star. His composite put him at 46th overall. Which is a very high 4 since 3 star doesn't start until after 100 in most services. ESPN had him at 39. 50 by Rivals. 47 by Scout. So that is not close to a low 4 star.

After the Warford, Hulls and Elston group we have struggled to get kids to stay four years. Yogi is the only one of his class. Most of Troy's class is gone. I'd like to think we keep RoJo, OG and JM for four but if Emmit, DD, Stan, Max, JH, HP taught us anything it is that we have had problems recently keeping kids.

I would add Remy Abell to that group that we thought would stay 4 but didn't

To back this up..

2010 - 1/3  Oladipo did graduate (7 years combined)

2011 - 0/3  (7 years combined)

2012 - 1/5  (11 years combined, only 2 made it past 2 years)

2013 - 2/6 at most (only 2 made it past 2 years)

2014 - 3/6 at most (3 "one and done")

Edit:  This should probably be in a different thread.
