I am not about to jump into the Indiana vs. non-Indiana recruiting fray but I did read this morning that 247 has Green as the #5 player in the State of New York.  With the number of kids in New York that play basketball being #5 isn't exactly chopped liver.

Hmmm...seems like the #5 player in New York might just be buddies and play AAU with the #1 player in New York. Look for Devonte's teammate wearing uni #1, with highlights starting at the 3:13 mark:

No. Our class is currently 2 4* kids, a late rising 3* and a largely unranked kid, who, due to his Hoosier DNA, must possess at least 4* intangibles. Or so people keep telling me.
And we're still in on Maker, who's a 5* by any definition.
Everything I read about Green portrays him as a tough, competitive, driven kid. If true, to me that's as Hoosier as it gets and I'm glad to have him.
Welcome to the family Devonte.

On the last page Natural made a warning to keep it about Green, which will include how next year's team will look with Green. Also, we've made it known in the past to keep the recruiting threads clean of any debates and derailing. We let some stuff slide, but multiple posters did the same, so we had to delete posts. Nothing personal, and we are not censoring people who do not share our views, but we have a basketball forum to discuss how we wished Crean recruited. The mods and certain posters put in a lot of time with these recruiting threads up to date, and out of respect for them, we want to keep it about the recruits.

I get it, you guys so a great job of keeping threads appropriate and on topic, was just confused as to why mine was singled out when there were a whole bunch of posts before and after mine that were very similar in nature.

Regardless, I've watched a few videos and this kid seems like he is quite versatile and hearing comments from his coach about his pride in his defense makes me happy

On paper he is not a kid I normally get excited about but for some reason I like this guy. Feel like this is a good get.

I feel he just fits our team well. A kid with good handles who feels comfortable with the ball in his hands.

Thanks for understanding. Like I said, nothing was personal, we tried to clean up multiple posts. :)

On a side note, like the make up of this class.

We can only hope.

Nah, I hope he completely dominates the rest of this season and leads us to a deep tourney run. He would probably then leave after that, which is the downside, but I'd rather him ball out and leave a better player than struggle in order to come back for another year.

A few thoughts...

1) His playing style reminds me a lot of Yogi. Especially his pull-up jump shot. Not as quick and strong as Yogi. And he probably focuses more on the three-point shot than Yogi does. But I definitely see similarities.

2) It's always good to hear the words "tenacious defender" when describing a player. Or at least it's good to hear he has the potential to be one. And I love hearing that he WANTS to be a lock-down defender. We absolutely must have guards who can stop dribble penetration. For many guys, effort is half the battle.

3) I'm curious if his ranking has something to do with his size. I haven't done too much research on him, but I really haven't seen many major weaknesses that he must improve upon. Therefore, that leads me to believe that his size has held him back from being ranked higher and being recruited more heavily.

4) I like that his brother is in the NBA. Never heard anything negative about Danny's attitude while he was at UNC. They may have a different style of play, but I would bet that he has a similar attitude as his brother. And to my knowledge, that's a good thing. The whole situation kinda reminds me a little of Joe and Jordan Crawford, to be honest. Hopefully Devonte is more engaged and interested in being a Hoosier than what Jordan was.

5) I have a good feeling about this. I think he'll have a good career. He's one of those guys that, had he chosen to go somewhere else, you would hear about him in a few years and might be showing up on some All-American lists. Like, had he chosen Iona, you could see him in the NCAA Tournament dropping 25 on somebody in a first-round upset in a couple of years. He'd be someone that power conference schools would salivate over as a grad transfer. Just a gut feeling.
