Something else that bugs me about this game or any game against pu with Hammons on the court...

Step 1:  Give ball to Yogi

Step 2:  Bring whoever Hammons is guarding to set a screen for Yogi

Step 3:  Let Yogi do his thing

That usually results in a good look for Yogi or a driving lane for Yogi.  I know they were playing Hammons on Troy most of the night so they didn't have to worry about the pop.  We needed to get Hammons away from the goal for our penetration and slashing.

Also, Troy said after the MSU loss that he didn't bring it and that would never happen again.  This is his second game in a row of not bringing it.  You will almost always be the most athletic player in your matchup.  Slow down a little to speed up.

Remember when folks were talking about Troy or JBJ leaving early? That's laughable. JBJ gets shots slapped right back in his face over and over and over. Troy should live in Cook Hall working on a jumper. Getting beat is one thing , but the lack of effort tonight was unacceptable. Saturday will hopefully be a fresh start. Go Hoosiers

The Mackey crowd chants "IU Sucks" and we were only too happy to oblige.  Bitterly disappointed in how the team seems to have regressed these last 2 games.  If they can't get a solid bounce back win Saturday against Rutgers then this season is going nowhere because this team will not win at Wisky.

We've got two more likely road losses coming up, and then we pretty much just need to protect home court. We should probably take a game or two of the four remaining road games, and lose one at home. I don't care what Goodman says, this team is still tourney bound. HMP needs to come back, and in a hurry. Opponents shooting 60%+ from 2 since his injury.

This will be my sole post on this one:

Pathetic. Two hours of my life that I will never get back.

Did anyone else get the feeling that there is something going on between Yogi and JBJ? Not looking to stir up anything, but I got the distinct feeling that they aren’t best of friends, and I’ll leave it at that. I don’t get the substitution patterns (again), and wonder why we can’t play defense consistently. Bryson Scott's coast to coast drive to end the first half pretty much told the tale.

Yogi seemed pissed at everybody for good reason. I guess if I played with JBJ and he didnt play D and took alot of bad shots I would get upset too.

I hope Yogi takes control of these guys. Hoping he gets back to Btown and demands that everyone go straight to Cook Hall. Leads them through sprints and drills all night.

I'd be really interested to hear more about Yogi's leadership on the team and what kind of role he plays.

Indeed, everyone take a deep breath.

Even setting aside the possibility of a huge road upset @UW or @UMd, winning 6 of 8 looks reasonable, which would put IU at 21-8 (11-5) with two tough-but-winnable home games left.

At some point, HMP should return to shore up the interior D that's been exposed in his absence. We failed to appreciate his impact on D, I think, due to the overall poor defensive performance.

As for the woe-is-me future-of-the-program silliness, again: chill. This team likely resembles no recent IU team so much as '11-'12, which improved defensively the next year, one the B1G, and was a championship contender all year. It seems likely that all the key contributors return for an interesting run next year, plus we add a couple newcomers who can contribute at least in little ways where this squad has need (perimeter d for OG, interior presence for Juwan, not to mention the outside shot at a game-changing big). Oh, and Davis hopefully returns.

After that, the cupboard isn't bare. Even without any exciting short-term additions, a '16-'17 squad with RJ, Max, Holt, Juwan, Davis (?), and OG has a nice core.

I thought Holt played his a** off.  I could see him fighting all night for position.  He'll be fun to watch as an upperclassman.  Zeisloft.  Still like his fire.  Wasn't a difference-maker in last night's game but loved seeing how pissed off he was at that one call.  Just show me some fire once in a while.  Yogi - great game.  Glad he showed up.

Pretty terrible game plan on both ends.  No one played well besides Yogi.  Stan played ok, but we know about what he can do at this point.

Why we kept driving the ball in to the 7 footers is beyond me?  There is no explanation for that.  Painters gameplan was pretty simple, put the big guys manned up against Troy and let them camp out in the paint because Troy can't shoot, and then get up in all the guards to force them to drive.  I think Crean should have taken Troy out when he saw this so that we could have 5 shooters on the floor and get Hammonds out of the paint, but we didn't try this until late in the game.  We are already small so we should have tried to force Hammonds to get out and guard someone who can shoot the ball instead of letting him sit in there and swat shots.

The defense was absolutely horrible again, looked like a lay up line out there.  This isn't even about the post guys, because everyone knew they had the advantage there, this is about our guards getting absolutely embarrassed and allowing guys to drive right past them any time they wanted.  Lay ups are easy when you know the other team doesn't have any rim protection.

Pretty disappointing effort tonight by everyone from the coaches on down.  I did find it funny that Crean finally put on the press after the under 4 timeout when the game was basically over and he was running and jumping up and down on the sidelines.  Could have tried that a little sooner when the game wasn't so far out of reach.

but did we get deflections? That's the important thing!

Here is the thing I question. Many people talk a bunch of trash about this stat like it is the most insignificant stat there is. I say go look at games you felt we played good defense and we "were all over the place". Then look at deflections. Then compare them to last night. There is no 100% telling tool to tell a story. There are a bunch of variables that tell a story. Deflections are one of those. Like baseball getting modern with advanced stats, I am glad basketball is as well. Just because it wasn't an obvious stat when I was born should I minimize it. I prefer to understand why it is critical.

What do you all picture our halftime being like?

I picture CTC standing there talking a bunch of mumbling BS nonsense with the coaching staff nodding their heads in unison (like bobble heads) and the players wondering what planet he's from! I can't remember the last time a problem was corrected at halftime.

I picture him pacing around like a madman screaming his head off, yelling at everyone to play harder, drive harder, cut with a purpose, play with more intent, etc. Then he takes a swig of Diet Coke and repeats it.

I gave up expecting any significant tactical halftime changes a long time ago. Crean has a ceiling and that's obvious to those who don't have their heads in the sand. I really think never playing at this level makes it difficult to impossible for him to understand the intricacies of the game.
