IU Vs Gtown (Post Game Thread)

My thoughts-

1) Troy made some stupid turnovers but did not lose us this game. These are the growing pains of an athletic kid trying to build his game. Come junior season, watch out.

2)This one is on Coach, for the simple fact that he didn't use his timeouts wisely.  When we had a ten point lead we should have called a time out when they reinserted their big man. He controlled the paint and our kids had no clue how to adjust.

They were also setting picks down low so their big man could get the ball and create things.

3) We really need  Coach to know how to attack a zone.  It's been seven years. It's time coach, it's time.

4)We really need a big man, otherwise teams will own us, if we can't consistently make three pointers.

5) It's been up and down for Hanner this season.  Let's hope he progresses if not for this year but the next.

6) At the final minutes and in OT I would loved to see us apply a press D. Thoughts?  I think we could have really messed with them.  We have the bodies and athleticism. Not saying it would have worked, just wanted to see if it could work.

There were three glaring problems with this team at the beginning of the year, and the same three problems are still there.

1) We don't take care of the ball.
2) We don't play consistent defense.
3)  We have no one to contest the interior.

I have seen glimpses that the team is working on 1 and 2, but when things get close, they revert back to form.

We've talked about a press quite a bit on this board, and I do like the idea.  I'll say it again though, we haven't really seen us press with Crean so I wouldn't expect it to suddenly start.

I kept waiting for the shoe to drop and of course it did. Embarrassingly outcoached in second half. I've never seen coaching to blame so damn often in my life. Good game plan coming in but, Man, second half we got blistered.

We were out toughed again on and off the court. Thompson was working those refs all game. Worked to his advantage by the second half. He worked himself into some favorable calls.

Bad decisions by Troy down the stretch and Yogi in OT. Yogi had nothing for DSR on the defensive end either.

Besides that, Troy, JB, and Yogi balled out.

Saw this one coming from a mile away though. No shock!

Defense is the Achilles heel for this team. Without it, they have to be lights out or they lose. I'm not happy with a lot of things but basic fundamental defense that is lacking on this team bothers me the most. There is an excuse to get beaten in the paint due to lack of size, there is nothing that can change that. But not staying in front of your man or even knowing where they are is a struggle for this team. I'm not going to get started on the coaching and timeouts, the coach is in place. Nothing different will be done there. It was a great game, but iu should have won it.

This one is on coach...need to make adjustments

Largely, yes. However, Coach doesn’t play defense. Apparently, neither do the Hoosiers. There were moments of "no clue" basketball today.

Not sure what Perea was doing today. Surprised that the Hoosiers won the battle of the boards. I expected the loss, so no real disappointment. But this one was in their grasp for much of the game.

Oh, well. Gotta get ready for Nebraska, and the B1G season.
