IU Vs Gtown (Post Game Thread)

Recommended Posts

Now that's a word I haven't heard in 7 years. Wonder if Crean knows what it means or no doubt he doesn't; how to use one for his teams advantage? Even dad gummit Coca Cola Roy aw shucks in NC has been issued one since then. Its not like we haven't been screwed royally over and over by the officials to warrant one. The obvious answer is Crean doesn't watch enough of the game to actually know when were getting screwed. He's too busy frenetically pacing enough to bother the tv announcers than pay attention to the game. If Glass cared as much as he says about Crean being the answer to our problems and not part of them, he should tape a 5' box around Creans chair, kinda like a penalty box so he has to watch what's going on. He could infuse the Bobby Knight chaining down the chair rule as a precedent for the sake of the program and his own bhind much like the AD under Knight who was scared ________ of Knight. He could call it the coaching box rule.

My question is when was the last time Crean got a tech?

My question is when was the last time Crean got a tech?

Probably when he got a tech against Wisconsin and punched a door on his way out.

Although he should've blown a gasket when Zeller got thrown to the ground on a rebound in front of a ref and it went uncalled.

I've asked that question before...

but the real head scratcher is what others have brought up tonight...

how can a head coach not work the officials? to the point where it's a talking point...he's way too conservative with the officiating...

and that's a problem.

Jeffries was a Knight recruit...

but I know what you are going to say next...he finished under Davis, and entered the NBA after Davis' leadership...

No. I wasn't going to say that. The post that I responded to said simply "Did Davis ever have a lottery player let alone 2 on one team?". The answer is "Yes, he had Jared Jeffries, who turned out to be a lottery pick".

Regardless of who recruited him, who he started playing for and who he finished with, he did play for Mike Davis. So, again, yes, Davis had a lottery pick. And as others have already pointed out, he got to the final game with ONE lottery pick.

which brings me to the point that Knight rarely had a player go pro in that era...

had Jeffries played for Knight...he (Jeffries), arguably would have stayed longer and helped IU in 2003 and 2004...

I've lost count on hw many times he should have blown a gasket. Today a perfect example. He's gonna let a terrible coach in JT2 work the crap out of the officials first half knowing the calls will go GU's way the second half because of it. A good coach would have been just as belligerent as Thompson and then some. Watching this just shows how outclassed Crean is in the X and O's plus on the sideline in gametime when we need him most. Crean needs to watch tape of any great coach, not just from Indiana though there are many to choose. Heck, I've seen his mentor go ballistic in East Lansing yet Crean can't hold Izzoe's jock on the sideline. Crean is a complete non factor as a in game coach. If it isn't planned for he cannot adapt to changes in the game and he sure cant work officials for our his teams benefit. I really think he wants it; he just can't do it. Coaching that is.

That team got hot at the right time, and Dane Fife suddenly learning how to shoot certainly didn't hurt.  Davis had the benefit of inheriting a team built for a run by one of the greatest coaches ever, one that RMK said would play for the national title and should win it.

Crean should try and get Jim to take over for IU football, that'd be the only way we'll get anything good out of the universe shattering stupidity of his contract.

And to the Crean defense league, that last statement has nothing to do with his help in us losing a game we should've won today.  Those are my honest feelings on Crean, that contract was indescribably stupid and it's a complete waste because he is not the man to take us where we should expect to be.

Agreed. Crean got us back from the Sampson crap-fest. As a reward, Glass set him up for life - or damn near it. Crean's contract is so over the top in his favor. He had to have caught Glass with his pants down or something. So either IU takes it in the shorts financially to rid itself of the perpetual underachiever, or we have to ride it out for the next 6 years. Either way, the program is doomed. Imagine how immaterial IU can become in another 6 years of this.

Would he though?  How many players did RMK have that were projected as lottery picks and stayed in school?  Taking in consideration the differences in eras

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

Crean has had THREE lottery picks and what does IU have to show for it? Two Sweet Sixteen appearances. He couldn't coach a team against a good zone then, and he still can't.

Which is why I am beyond confused as to this thread turning into a discussion about working the refs, lol.

OK OK OK...so Crean worked the officials today...

IU outshot, outrebounded, outfoulshooted...and still lost?

this guy is a reverse Midas-Touch type individual...

Crean happens to be a great salesman, he could sale ice to an eskimo and convinced Glass that his one good year at Marquette with Wade wasn't a fluke despite 8 years of evidence to the contrary.

Refs show zero respect for him because he doesn't demand it. You could plainly see JT3 working the officials even when we were up big.

I saw Crean talking specifically to the refs after two timeouts. We got a LOT of calls today

Sources tell me his conversations with the refs were this

Ref 1:  "Hey, Tom, you actually called a timeout."

Crean:  "Yeah, my assistants made me read the rule book.  Did you know it's legal to use timeouts?"

Ref 1:  "Yes, yes we did Tom."

Afterwards

Ref 2:  "Should we tell him the timeouts he saved in his first 6 years didn't rollover?"

Ref 1:  "No, I don't have the heart to break that to him.  Let him figure it out on his own."

Sorry, I couldn't resist.
