Washington down 12 to Southern with 3 min to go in the first half

Washington wins in 2OT.   Southern had a 5 pt lead in the first OT with 30 sec to go and then did what low major teams do to not get the upset.   Fouled a 3 pt shooter and missed a FT late.

Wow.  Noticed Tucker and their star center didn’t play.  Any notable injuries?

From Rupp Rafters- poll on confidence in Pope

I keep hearing about their 20mil dollar roster. Does anyone know if that’s actually true? I really struggle to buy that, as in I don’t. I just don’t see how you get there without a Dybantsa or a Dent or some super high end kid like that making 4-5 mil right off the top. Oweh’s a good player but they don’t have anyone like those kinds of kids and I just don’t believe that Pope radically overpaid for a slew of pretty good players.

No idea if it's accurate and Rupp Rafters is definitely not a reliable source, especially given how emotional it has been in the last 24 hours (lol). They're quick to "correct" posters there who call it a 20M roster and say it's actually $22M... everyone would need to be making between $1-3M. Seems wild. There's also a lot of speculation over there that the players have been fighting/arguing about NIL. They really, really seem to think Oweh is a locker room problem. And that Pope can't get them on the same page because he's "too Mormon" for them ... haha. Looking forward to playing them.

I don’t think it passes a sanity check.

Just how I see it is as follows:

Last season reports were they were in the $5M NIL range with us.

Then when the rev share started this season there were rumors UK put $9M of their $21M towards MBB.  The Lexington Herald found out it was actually more like $6M per athletic dept sources.  Makes more sense.

So $6M rev share, that means $16M of NIL to get to $22M.  $16M NIL for bball I just don’t believe.  3x last year’s NIL?   Where did that money come from?  $16M is the sort of NIL number major football programs layer on top of their rev share.  That much for bball seams very unlikely.

My guess: they’re actually $13-15M paid to players for THIS season and the $22M figure probably erroneously includes total contact value over multiple years.

If it is actually $22M that is wild.  Eyeballing their roster I can’t see how they add up to that much. And if it is true, those donors probably aren’t thrilled with the ROI right now.  Though I’m sure they’re not thrilled regardless now that I think about it.

UK Coach Mark Pope after the game, doing his best "Archie Miller looking at my shoes" impression. Goodman does an excellent job trolling him into depressive sadness, and Pope accepts the role willingly.

Goodman's first 'question' is "Allright Mark. This is probably I think as down as I've seen you. Period." lol

This two minute video is a lot:

Pope is a Mormon.

His wife is a BYU grad.

Her father was a BYU assistant in the 90’s.

Think he misses coaching at BYU yet ??
