Has Bob been drinking to excess again?

Probably...you know how bears are.  :))   Bob's nervous about the entire college football situation and realignment etc etc.  He's afraid that basketball is going to suffer in the disbursement of money.  The article was on ESPN....written by Myron Medcalf.

If ESPN would just go away both college football and college basketball would be better.  The hell with their "meddling."

Dr. Ed Hightower Named Big Ten Conference Special Advisor for Basketball Officiating

The Big Ten Conference announced that longtime NCAA basketball referee and educator Dr. Ed Hightower has been named Special Advisor for Basketball Officiating, effective immediately. In this role, Hightower will help Big Ten Conference Commissioner Kevin Warren review, assess, and audit the conference’s women’s and men’s basketball officiating programs and provide regular feedback and assessments of those programs to ensure that Big Ten Conference and NCAA officiating standards and expectations are upheld.

“Dr. Hightower has distinguished himself as an exceptional basketball official, educator, and leader during his storied career,” said Warren. “This combination of experiences makes him an ideal candidate to work with the Big Ten Conference to continue to enhance our women’s and men’s basketball officiating programs while serving as a mentor to both current and future basketball officials.”

Hightower officiated NCAA basketball for 36 years, including 12 Final Four appearances, earning the Naismith Men's College Official of the Year award in 1992. He retired as superintendent of the Edwardsville School district in 2015 following a 19-year tenure leading the district. Hightower received his bachelor’s, master’s, and specialist’s degrees from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and his Doctorate in Education Administration from Saint Louis University.

“I am proud to join the Big Ten Conference to work once again with the strongest basketball conference in the nation,” said Hightower. “I look forward to making an impact with the talented group of women’s and men’s basketball officials, student-athletes, coaches and administrators from all across the Big Ten.”

Referee evaluation will be solely on how fast they get from the baseline to center court to give a charge call.

Depends on what his definition of "fix" is.  My entire lifetime has been spent seeing "tweaks" to the tournament.
Personally, I say do away with the conference tournaments and let all the schools participate in The Dance.
I agree! But in a way though, with the conference tournaments in place, all the schools do participate in the dance since the winner of the conference tournament advances...

Yeah.  If that be the case then only CT winners advance to the NCAAT.  More or less what it was up until "The Maryland Rule."  I still say just let all the schools in.  Geez, it would only add another week-end.

I had to go back and look, I'm getting old. I always respected Hightower too.

It was Valentine that ... I "didn't think much of" ... lol

I liked Hightower too. There was a time I could turn on almost any college game and recognize all three officials. I don’t recognize most of the guys today.

I agree on Valentine plus Rucker drove me nuts too.
