HoosierAloha Posted May 6, 2024 Posted May 6, 2024 I believe foreign "professionals" were approved by the NCAA because it was more of a club system than them truly being professional athletes. Their club systems are similar to how we do some club soccer systems we do in the US now. Napleshoosier and Dave from Dayton 1 1 Quote

Demo Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 Interesting. Since there’s zero chance this is compensation-related, got to assume 1 of 2 things: : 1) Wyoming’s NIL is for $hit, or 2) I seem to vaguely recall player allegations of mistreatment and maybe any investigation there wasn’t gonna end well and ol’ Jeff found a life raft. Not surprising with a bad team, which that was. Unless things have changed since then, it doesn't sound like the fans will miss him. lillurk and Demo 2 Quote
Demo Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 Grand Canyon is a really nice add. Seattle is gonna be overmatched, at least early on. lillurk and Napleshoosier 2 Quote

Seattle has been 141, 139, and 107 in Pom the last three years. That would have put them 6th out of 11 three years ago, 7th out 11 two years ago, and 4th out of 10 last year. They should be a middle of the pack in the WCC. IUc2016 1 Quote
LamarCheeks Posted May 14, 2024 Posted May 14, 2024 Doug Gottleib to Green Bay? Seems as if the guy's been pushing for HC job -- though he has very little actual coaching experience. Maybe this will be the one. https://x.com/JonRothstein/status/1790401783929385023 Quote

I’ve never been able to figure what makes people think, even guys like Gottlieb who should know better, that just anyone can walk in and coach if they’ve been around the game. And apparently dude thinks it’s a part-time job. Quote

TTT Posted May 15, 2024 Posted May 15, 2024 Speaking of men’s programs only in major college sports….It’s time to do a behavioral science study on 1 year and 2 year NIL players (coaches could be included in their own study) who actually develop any kind of love other than self and money towards respective college / university….other than fake things coming out of a player/s (and coach/es) mouth/s. No connection like it used to be. Quote
LamarCheeks Posted May 16, 2024 Posted May 16, 2024 Tates Locke died today. He was 87. Was head coach at Army in the mid-1960s when he hired a young up-and-comer named Bob Knight to join his staff. Years later, he was RMK's assistant in Bloomington before leaving to take over in Terre Haute. Also was a head coach at Miami (Ohio), Clemson, Jacksonville University -- as well as ISU. And spent a little over a half-season as head coach of the NBA's Buffalo Braves (now the L.A. Clippers.) RIP cybergates, Demo, johnsoniu and 2 others 3 2 Quote
