Mike Woodson

I hope that I have a reputation that I am not a bomb thrower nor a pot-stirrer. When I saw this article from today's New York Daily News, I thought it was from a legit enough source that it would see this board sooner or later anyway, and that it deserved to be discussed:

Wow. Guess I am not surprised. Maybe that is the turnover people are discussing. Maybe Crean will be the transfer candidate. I am partially kidding. I want it to work with Crean, I really do. I have lost 90% faith in him as an in game coach this season. Woodson is not the guy for the job IMO though. I would not be thrilled by that at all.

From X's and O's perspective does anyone feel he can Coach a great game?  Remember the NBA is completely different from the college game.  Saban was a horrible NFL coach but excelled in college football.  Also Steve Spurrior.   I wonder if he could recruit.

For those who disparage Mike Woodson, first take a look at his performance. He is below .500 as an NBA head coach. BUT, after having been the assistant to Larry Brown for the Piston's last championship, he took over a complete train wreck in Atlanta, and dramatically improved each and every year, right through his final year there.

Two years ago he took over an 18-24 Knicks team that finished 36-30. Last year the Knicks won 54, though this year they are toast.

I do think he is a good coach but the question is how well can he recruit?

This talk does absolutely nothing to move the program forward. This can only hurt us.

"Hey coach X, come to Indiana and coach a traditional power. Just remember if you win the B1G, lose 5 pros and fail to make the tourney the following year we're going to get the moving trucks ready."

I'll be shocked if the best of the best aren't lining up to take over. Awesome.

"According to a source, Woodson would be a top candidate at his alma mater, Indiana University, if current coach Tom Crean does not return. The source claims that several prominent IU boosters are pushing to buy out Crean and install Woodson, a product of Indianapolis, as the coach."

I would be curious as to whom the "source" is...that paragraph alone is making some drastic reaches, and assumptions

A coach that's been mediocre for the overwhelming majority of 15 years doesn't have an unlimited leash, shocking.

What is this article and talk going to help? What is the end goal?

If Coach Crean stays, and it is overwhelmingly likely that he will, this article is tremendously unhelpful.

If he is going, the article is no longer an issue.

I never said it would help, but we shouldn't be surprised if the money isn't thrilled with a mediocre coach getting mediocre results.  Especially not when things like the youth and lack of shooting are said coaches fault in the first place because of how he recruited.
