I would feel much better about these visits if they were happening during HH or during a big game. The facilities are one thing but the atmosphere is what makes IU special. I just tried to explain this to a buddy of mine the other day. I told him that I went to a game a few seasons back where we played a nobody during X-mas break and the atmosphere was meh. I then went to IU vs MSU and the place was a madhouse. Night and day. When recruits see that type of fan support/environment, it makes a huge impact.
