Yeah, I've seen one report at 2.3, but don't know if its legit. Top end QB this year asking price is as high as 4. Nice to know we're in the running if we really want the dude.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure it was $1.8-2M, but I'm not trying to split hairs, $1.8M/$2M/$2.3M is all close enough.

Also, in chatting with some folks that work with our NIL, the amount available for our 2026 roster is up pretty nicely from 2025.  Like... very nicely.  I can see why Cig signed that extension so quickly, he's got all one could need here.  Scott, Pam, the rest of the AD, and the donors have been just superb with the support.

I guess we'll see how that manifests in this portal, but yea a $4M QB is very doable if the staff wants one, I can tell ya that.

For sure, nature of the market and I’m sure they’ll pay market value, but this thing right now has such ridiculous cachet that to the extent that anyone can do it in this era they can probably just select a QB rather than have to get into a heated bidding situation. If it turns out to be Hoover it’s because they wanted that QB rather a QB. We are so through the looking glass here. Unbelievable.

Re: paying QBs…To be clear I’m all for doing what you gotta do but I’ll tell you what, whoever signs off on giving Sorsby the $5mil he’s reportedly after is playing a dangerous game. That’s an insane number.

That is stone nuts. Overpaying for a Sorsby feels pretty dicey, overplaying close to that just feels indefensible if you aren’t playing for a Natty at the end of the line.

Question, because I don’t know really get the mechanics of this stuff: can they structure these deals with performance incentives or is that outside of how NIL as it is now works?

Well, there seem to be some programs that seem to think the path to success is in just pouring more money into it. You need investment, but it better be a wise investment. You're not likely to do it on the cheap. That investment better be to bring in the right guys. Poor fits culture wise, prima donnas, talented but unfocused players etc. are still going to cost coaches their job.

One thing we have with this staff is great evaluation, in both talent and fit. They're not going to hit a home run every time, but they do get a lot of production. 

 

5 mil for Sorsby? I bet he has to lower it a bit, but who knows, the bidding war may get him there. I wonder what kind of money UK is talking that has Sam Leavitt interested.

I don't do New Year's resolutions, but I have visited a few times in the last year. I am also living a IU football fans dream right now, and spending a lot of time the last few days consuming everything to do with IU football.

Yes, he's getting the support that will keep him here. I'd about bet that he's far more interested in investment in the program than in another raise, which he's getting anyway.

 

And I don't know that Hoover is a 4 million dollar guy. Just read a article a few days ago that detailed what the price ranges were by position and 4 mil was top end asking price.

Are they supposed to? No. 

Will anyone stop them? Also no. 

“Them” appears to be the money tree at Texas Tech btw.

I’m sure the money’s not nothing, but it sounds like Leavitt has a really good relationship with Will Stein that’s helping a lot. Not sure what kind of discount that gets you these days lol.
