Regardless if we are ranked correctly, too low or too high this week……..I do think that if we had the exact same results 3 or 4 years ago there is no way we would have been ranked above 1 loss Alabama, LSU and Georgia, as we are now. We most likely would have been an undefeated team ranked in the 14-18 range around where Missouri is this year. We are making some “brand progress” but really would be helpful to be competitive (or win) at Oregon. Pagoda, Hoosier Roots, ALASKA HOOSIER and 3 others 6 Quote
TTT Posted October 5, 2025 Posted October 5, 2025 IU got a higher spot or two and didn’t Oregon on a bye week drop a spot for a more intriguing nationally televised game. ALASKA HOOSIER 1 Quote

Hovadipo Posted October 6, 2025 Posted October 6, 2025 3:30 slot is the Goldilocks Zone. Don't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to tailgate, can watch the 11:00 games while you tailgate, home around 8:00 for those of us outside Monroe County. MemphisHoosier, sirhoosierlot and Pagoda 3 Quote

DChoosier Posted October 7, 2025 Posted October 7, 2025 I realize this a an obvious statement but it is extremely important that we are competitive (or win) at Oregon. We are currently in great shape for the CFP, being ranked 7th, but of the 8 teams behind us 5 of them are SEC teams in addition to Michigan. I’m guessing a number of pollsters would love to see us fall flat on our face in Oregon and in addition a potential win at PSU will be met, by some (especially SEC fans) with a shrug. Can’t wait for Saturday. PS. Let’s hope Illinois and Iowa go on win streaks so we have quality wins to point to. Pagoda and MemphisHoosier 2 Quote

In this recruiting class OSU already has a 5 star safety committed plus another safety that is the 6th ranked safety in the country! At some point you would think that Cig’s (and the staff) ability to turn zero star guys into players would have more appeal to a recruit than battling multiple highly ranked guys for playing time. I unfortunately think, outside of a loss at the buzzer, we'll fall like a rock if we lose out there this weekend. Luckily, we have a bunch of winnable games in between this one and PSU to work our way back up. WayneFleekHoosier, MemphisHoosier, Class of '66 Old Fart and 1 other 4 Quote

By the time we play them they might already have 4 losses. Who knows man. The best way to avoid all this poop is to just beat every team. MemphisHoosier, Banksyrules and ALASKA HOOSIER 3 Quote

We will have the single best win by any team this season, will have beaten three top 40 teams, including two of them on the road, and will be undefeated. One would think that would mean we will be top five and ranked higher than Oregon. One. Would. Think. Hoosier Roots, mike vannice and Lebowski 3 Quote
Lebowski Posted October 8, 2025 Author Posted October 8, 2025 Does anyone have solid information about NIL funds this season? Like really solid info. Send me a DM if you don't feel comfortable going public about it. I'm wondering if we're competing with Oregon. The perception is Oregon has a truck load. Quote

Send me a DM if you don't feel comfortable going public about it. I'm wondering if we're competing with Oregon. The perception is Oregon has a truck load. I know this isn't exactly want you want, but I've never seen a better source on where IUFB stands than this interview with Cig where he flat out says where we are going into this season. This is probably as good as talking to Scott Dolson. Cig is just a straight shooter. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/the-race-to-keep-up-with-40-million-rosters-is-shaking-college-football/ Cig says the top teams are $40M NIL and rev share, which matches up with what a lot of other sources say (usually $40-45M is the high end quoted). He even lists examples of these top spending programs, "Right now I understand that is Oregon, Ohio State, Texas. ... Texas Tech because of their oil money. I think Notre Dame's up there pretty good right now, too. Miami, of course." And then Cig says about IU: "I think our little pot of gold is pretty nice, but we're not at $40 million. Or $30 million. Or even $25 million." To me it's pretty clear he is basically saying IUFB's player payroll is in the low $20M range. So, while we compete with the big programs for players here and there, we are not close to Oregon or any of the big programs on roster spend. We're an outlier among the top-10, all the other top-10 teams have player payroll 50-100% higher than us. And really most top-20 teams have quite a bit more resources than we do, especially when you consider their overall athletic dept revenue. I'd guess our player payroll spend would be ranked somewhere in the mid-20's right now. We'll never know for sure since solid roster spend info for all other schools is not available, but if you look at our roster and recruiting class rankings it points to our roster spend being ranked somewhere in the mid-20's range. While players may end up better or worse than their ranking, in general they're paid in line with their ranking. We've got mostly a 3* roster. Another way to look at it is list out the largest football programs and there are a lot that are bigger than us. Now, while our roster payroll isn't on the high end, we've still made huge progress in the last two years. Tom Allen had $2M of NIL when he left per the IndyStar. We've come a long way. And of course Cig and staff are so darn good they get the most from what they have through player selection, development/retention, scheme, and culture. Hopefully our on-field results allow IU to keep increasing spend on our roster, because this is our window to do special things in football and change IUFB for years to come. cthomas, Home Jersey, moyemayhem and 8 others 10 1 Quote
