Adam Howard No Longer On Staff

Did Dane Fife and Woody have issues because Fife was talking to recruits about things that he should not be talking to recruits about?  Yes.

Is the word out about Howard talking about things that he shouldn't and not doing things he was told to do?  Apparently.

At least they talk to recruits. Woodson can’t even be bothered to do that.

I don't know any more than anyone else about the situation with Adam but if you read the various recruit summaries that get posted by 247, Inside the Hall, The Daily Hoosier, etc., Adam Howard's name gets brought up repeatedly as calling/texting our targets.  They rarely ever mention hearing directly from Woody.  So in those respects, Adam is the face of IU recruiting so it better be something more than a Woody snit fit that resulted in Adam's departure.

I think that's exactly it, and all Woodson needed was an excuse.

Another thing is the age-old problem for marketing an intangible like a university sports program, a coach and staff, where one fits, etc...  Closing the sale is a real bear.  One has to get the signature.

Lots of times it all comes down to personal contacts.  RMK could turn on the charm and be straight with recruits and families. His way was tough love...not unlike boot camp.  Crean could sell freezers to eskimos.  But in the end, the eskimos got smart and weren't happy.

Maybe Woody doesn't connect.  But I don't call that a cancer.  Woody also has other in-game issues.  That's not a cancer.  But neither is good for a program.  Combined, they are awful, and the AD likely sees that.  Pay to play has thrown the college sports for a loop.  The AD was likely casting about for someone that could thread that needle.

Churning coaches is not good for a program, either.

But getting Woody did bring back lots of Hoosier fans.  It was a roll of the dice and didn't come up a winner just yet.   And winning fixes a lot of ills.

I do really yearn, this year, for our new point guard to make this team his.  Shooting outside would help.  Winning matchups and good scouting and game plans and etc....... (and recruiting, too.).

That’s wild.  Did he feel undermined by them?

oh BTW, PS to coach, Gallo is better than Carlyle and needs to play 28-30 a game.  And Leal is better than Cupps and should play almost all of his minutes. There is my coaching tip to staff if they want to take it.

Control freak

There’s nothing more to it. In fact the recruiting rift they had started like this. Howard was vocal to Woody about his thoughts on recruiting. Woody disagreed (and was wrong). Adam had a conversation with another coach. The other coach was aligned with Adam. Woody wanted it dropped entirely.

Adam wanted Woodson to be more engaged with recruits. He was going to coordinate this for Woodson. Woodson however felt he was engaged enough.

Woody has a right to doing things his way. If he wants to go portal heavy, just do that.

I think the lack of success and process just has everyone worried.

They act like they want to go HS heavy (Fland, Queen, McNeeley, others)(Haralson, Mullins, Reibe, Moreno). But then they miss.

I think the hit rate makes fans question the path and the direction as much as anything.

The perceived treatment of guys starts to become another problem.

He is definitely a loyalty guy. I can kinda get that.

It’s just bad vibes, because it seems like something that could have been easily handled with a system in place.

Woodson is a fake loyalty guy. He wants certain HS recruits but just doesn’t want to put in the time.

I feel like we're getting back to the days of CTC, who reportedly -- for some reason or another -- alienated the Indiana high school basketball community and could no longer get in-state recruits.

Woody likely had some cachet because of his status as a legendary Hoosier and former state prep hoops star, but seems to be well on his way to tossing all that out the window. He appears to prefer transfers, which is more fitting to his NBA background with free agency.

But IMO -- at some point, you need to start landing in-state kids. We're obviously not gonna get 100% of who we want in Indiana, but it seems now, we're back on the path to getting 0%.

CMW should hire you, just so he could fire you for your insolence.

No surer way to get fired than asking CMW to get off the couch and do his job.

I was told there will be long term ramifications. There are players and other staffers that are not happy with this decision by Woodson

I know that I'm dreaming, but hopefully the ramifications include Woodson and unemployment insurance.

Woody thought they were to buddy buddy

That is literally the dumbest **** I have ever heard.  Two senior leaders are too "buddy, buddy"?  That is what you want on a team.  Being that way helps dudes get through long seasons.

Woodson is a clown.  A petty, lazy, potentially bigoted (the elephant in the room being the difference between the players and families he wanted to be involved with and those he was more hands off).  Screw him.

Simple as that.
