IUFB vs Charlotte - Saturday, 09.21.24 @ Noon on BTN

Recommended Posts

Nicer fall weather and big games starting with Maryland equals full football stadium.

There is definitely a difference of being happy with a 1 point win and able to point out improvement needed with a 38 point win when going to your future destination.

It will be interesting to see how this season plays out because IU will play well enough that gives them a chance at winning in every game.  There are some more wins in there.

We gotta come out. Put Allen in the past. Cig is a great coach…we need to support. Hes going to be a coach that will be called upon by other programs and we want to show our full support to Coach Cig. Team is exciting! Let’s go Hoosier nation!

I was the one guy who hated Tom Allen the most, even back before it became acceptable or within reason.  If I can forget him and embrace the human cigar lounge, certainly others can.

On a sort of, kind of, attendance note.

Out of curiosity I looked at Stubhub and saw a pair of 50 yardline 25th row tickets at $32 each for the Maryland game. On top of the $32 Stubhub is adding $19 per ticket in fees.

A 59% up-charge due to fees!!! I use Stubhub but sometimes I hate them.

Good performance from the team.  One thing I would add on the fan issue is the team deserves support but also the game day experience from IU is sorely lacking.  Former season ticket holder until recently.  This year I made it to the FIU game and parking was chaotic, concessions ran out of food by halftime, and the PA system was blaring music most of the game and completely eliminated the college atmosphere.  That won’t stop me from getting back to another game but it does need a lot of work

How much more business could a team possibly take care of in the “just take care of business” portion of the year? Clinical. Take care of business two more times and we’re bowling before Columbus Day.

No attendance complaints from me. It was hot as a mother in there today. I hung in until the 45-14 mark and I had had enough. This is a heck of a team though, and the early forecast for Maryland is looking pristine. Hopefully we pack the place.

Absolutely.

I’m definitely thinking differently about the team/program this year but will admit that I thought us winning at UCLA meant the Bruins would get absolutely smoked at LSU.

Guess I’ll have to change my thinking a bit more. LOL.

I agree with the above quote.  But for IU that means, in my opinion, winning SEASONS and not simply four games against some seemingly weak teams.  To change the IU culture or the way people think, you need multiple winning seasons and some bowl games as well.  We’re off to a good/great start, but I don’t expect sellout crowds after four games.  We all know that we’ve had decades of miserable football and that’s why people leave at half or don’t show up at all.  Get some consistent winning and then people will react differently.  JMHO.

Hard to get people to set in high humidity 85-90 heat vs Charleston.  Stadium to be full vs Maryland. 6 and 0 would start sell out games and thereafter depending on competition and wins vs losses with the best football fall weather.

This type of thinking isn't what Coach Cig wants in his locker room.  JMHO.

Plus I don’t think IU has one offensive turnover in 4 games.

Correct.

Among many other things two stats kind of stand out to me:

1) ZERO turnovers after four games. I don’t care who you are playing zero to’s after 4 games is very impressive.

2) I was thrilled that McCulley came back, as I thought we desperately needed him, but the receiver room is so deep that the passing game has been good in spite of DM having a total, in 4 games, of 1 catch for 9 yards. Shows that Cig brought in some dudes.

Probably true, but none of us are in the locker room. Changing decades of fan apathy is not something he can do in four games.

Apathy may not even be the right word. We get pretty good attendance. The crowd thing is more like muscle memory;  people have simply become used to leaving at half time. I believe it is up the athletic department to work on changing the habit.

I was thinking about this last night and I dreamed that the Athletic Department started a giveaway to students, and would pay a semester’s tuition if you were in your seat the middle of the 4th quarter and your seat number was drawn.

I can’t wait to be back in Southern Indiana so I can go to the games.

Ahh, 4-0 coffee tastes sooo good this morning.

And by coffee, I mean a Folgers K-cup from the Keurig because I’m a down to earth guy like Coach Cigs. Not some fancy pressed crap made with a bean thats been covered in insect excrement like Stuhoo and Hoosierhoopster drink
