This place is like a ghost town....did we run out of bandwidth again?

Hermie's on a well-deserved vacation enjoying the finer things in hamster life.  He texted me earlier today and commented on how much he enjoyed the full body massage from a pair of scantily clad female hamsters.  He told me later tonight he'll be dining on mealworms and fresh vegetables at the new Gordon Ramsay restaurant that just opened on his island paradise.  He sends his best to btb and we should rest assured he'll be back in a few weeks.

Exactly how I’ve seen it.   Needed a playable 4/5 and another combo guard that can play.  Move Karvala, Manhertz, Sokolov to 11,12,13.

I agree that a couple more proven back-ups would be beneficial.  It appears the coaching staff made the decision to play Sisley and the freshmen as the back-ups this coming year.  I assume the freshmen/Sisley will play so we will be more likely to retain them for next year.  At some point, we need to develop a core group to build around.

Any chance IU lands a kid that withdraws from the draft?

No. Pretty much the only one who is still available is momcilovic and he’s not coming to IU. The others either already committed to a new school while also entering the name in the draft or returning to the school they were at.

Kind of strange it's been this quiet, but then we're still in May. Maybe staff's going for a Euro guy to fill in?

They told us a while ago the roster was set more or less.  They have since added 2 completely underwhelming depth pieces that cost next to nothing.  I think we spent huge to acquire our 6 from the TP.  I think Sherrill was around 4-5. Burton 2.5-3.  Mustaf 1.5-2.  Harris 1.5.  Yigi 2.5-3.
Lindsay 2-2.5.  (Just guesses with some a little more informed). Sisley 1 to 1.5.  1.5-2 for the 3 freshman. I think we are really close to 20 million as it stands.

We will add something at 13 but I expect something along the lines of Our last 2 additions.  I’m on record saying we’ve hurt ourselves immensely with 8-12. I hope Karvala or Manhertz surprise and we stay Healthy in our top 7.

I pray we find something more of use at 13 but I don’t expect it or think the money is there or else we would have acted differently with spots 11-12.

Seems like fair enough back of the napkin math. They definitely better hit on Sisley and Harris if you’re paying a million-plus for two fringe rotation guys last year.

With that said, we’re probably a top 10-ish spender this year. Can anyone really justify spending more at this point? Even if Cuban comes in and writes a check for $5mil for Momcilovic, does anyone think that makes presumptive favorites for the title? Final Four?

At some point you have to draw the line monetarily. The staff has done a solid job restocking the shelf for a multi-year rebuild. If they had done that last year we’re probably having a different conversation.

This is where I shake out.

I’m thinking about how IU needs to fund FB and MBB with finite resources.  Some donors are FB or MBB only, but at the end of the day money flowing into the IU athletic dept is pretty fungible.

Where do we want to be pushing more spend right now?  Our missed the field of 68 MBB program trying to win a tourney game or two, or our defending national champ mega money making FB program led by the 2x national coach of the year that probably has around eight years of coaching left?

I get we’ve got IUBB fans that want our team to be as good as possible.  Fair enough.  I’m just trying to consider the realities of funding all our teams.

$20M seems very generous for MBB.  We thought it was going to be $13-14M going into the portal and it came in 50% higher!  I really struggle to see a case for giving them more right now.  They have plenty, go win.

There is zero chance this will happen but if Cuban did indeed offer Momcilovic $5,000,000 I would say thank you Mr. Cuban.

There is no way I would say that we need to “draw the line monetarily”.

Based on the numbers being thrown around for Yessoufou ($6-7M), I don’t think $5M gets it done.
