right now in present time sure, but history would have IU as more the more decorated basketball program, not just operating in a silo from the past say 10-15 years

I think more Anthony Walker, but hopefully a bit less minutes than he got.

You’ve got 40 minutes to fill at either spot. Bailey and Devries will play the bulk. I do not believe Alexis was brought in to play their immediate backup.

4: Devries (30ish), Bailey (10)

5: PortalBig (20ish), Bailey (15)

That leaves 5 minutes left for Alexis. I think the above minutes allocation is very likely so there truly aren’t many minutes left unless we do not get another quality big. In that case we may be a little thin and he plays more.

I'd be pretty surprised if Alexis doesn't play 14MPG (Walker totals)

I mean... he played 10+ MPG for the National champion

Not seeing that at all. In your scenario--- one of Miles, Enright, Drake, or Dorn isn't playing much at all.

Drake probably my guess unless he outplays Enright. Whoever emerges between Dorn and Miles will play more. Alexis would still need to earn his minutes.

Right.  If the outside shooting pans out anything near what the numbers indicate IU will need only a solid 5 who can rebound, move the ball, and do the intangibles.  Daryl Thomas, Dean Garrett, or even a Noah Vonleh or Jared Odle type production will suffice if the scoring comes from anywhere/everywhere else.  Go Hoosiers !!!

Did you just use Jared Odle production in comparison to Thomas, Garrett, and Vonleh?  Ummm......

Federiko wouldn't start. Bailey is playing the bulk of his minutes at the 5. I'm not sure how much more clear our current roster could make that.

The more pieces that we’ve signed the more I’m leaning towards this as well. We may look a bit like Frans Iowa teams next year, but if we have a coach who can actually coach guys up on the defensive end that could be really fun to watch and, depending on how the defense comes together, potentially better than any of us are thinking today.

You may be right. But just looking at our roster and putting faith in our budget it would make sense they are going to bring in one more big that would be a starter level guy.

Only 80 minutes to go around spread amongst Devries, Bailey, Federiko/Miller, and Alexis. I would have to expect Alexis falls at the bottom of those four guys in this hypothetical. Maybe that lands between 5-15 minutes depending on the night.

Idk. He’s a undersized center. Doesn’t really have stretch 4 potential. The B1G isn’t kind to undersized centers imo. The Greek kid as a stretch 4. Then get 2 Centers. Miller and Curtis. Or Miller and Federico. I wish we could have recruited a better 5 overall, however Bailey might be the starting 5 in which case it changes some things. I also realize only about 9-10 will play and Alexis might not be one of those guys. In which case it doesn’t matter. I feel that way about a couple of our additions.

Debating minutes for an incomplete team with a new coach is funny lol

Not really, there's 10 guys on the roster and doubt we play all 10. We're missing one piece, a defensive 5. Assuming we sign one of the two rumored guys, everybody else after is going to be building for the future. Wouldn't expect much out of Curtis next year if he is indeed on board. Wouldn't mind adding Briscoe to fill out the bench.

Where did Torvik have IU last year, preseason? I feel like it was Top 15.

Computer rankings aren't the be all, end all.

I actually think Torvik had us ranked in the mid 40s. It was they pre-season hype and "stars" that made us preseason top 20 not the metrics...it seemed like the metrics surprisingly had us pegged pretty well prior to the season...Honestly, it was probably pretty easy  because last year's team -outside of Goode and maybe Mgbako -- didn't have have shooters.  You can't win if you can't shoot. This year we look to have an elite shooting team.

With that said, I wouldn't put all my eggs in these rankings. We really need to play first to get an idea of how it is going to go. Right now Torvik has OSU and UNC significantly higher than us, and frankly, I think we will be better than both of them by a significant amount.

Transfer portal rankings

2024- Carlyle 15

2025- Carlyle 313

Optics looked good in 2024 though

Also shows you that these rankings are pure guesswork outside of several really good players....I'm pretty sure connections will get you far in these rankings even if you're not good. See Kristian Lander as an example - highly ranked, played at Indiana Elite but clearly shouldn't have been ranked in the top 1000.

You really have to do your scouting. I felt far too often -- imo -- Woodson was taking the easy way and chasing stars. Simply put, Carlyle had no business being ranked in the top 300, let alone top 20.  Anyways, he's moved on, made a nice bag while being here.

Lander shouldn't have been Top 100 in his original class lol

The handwringing about a starting-caliber center right now reminds me of the period after Enright committed when some were mad because they thought he’d start.

Or after Conwell picked UL and Wilkerson took other visits and they sky was falling because we had like three players.

The rim running, shot blocking, screen-and-dive center we need is going to look at the roster and see a perfect fit for him.

C — it could be you! Feast at the rim with our spacing and passing.

PF — Bailey

SF — DeVries

SG — Wilkerson

PG — Conerway

bench: Alexis, Enright, Miles, Dorn, Drake, Sisley, (Goode?)

Near certain to the bold... that had me filtering "excitement" from the get go... then you watched us play, and well .... yeah.

We also didn't have any creators.

Umm....are you saying that Dean Garrett and Noah Vonlah played over 300 college games each?

Vonleh and Garrett's numbers you are citing are from the NBA, lol.

No, obviously CAREER numbers . . . not NBA alone.  Nevertheless, you clearly set me straight . . . kudos!

does it sound any sort of realistic to add either of those two, at this juncture?

When Bailey was playing, opposing teams scored at a rate of 60% in the paint. Miller or Fedx2 would serve a purpose on this team...not offensive threats but good defensively. I think Fed has a 7'4" wingspan. We got plenty of guard depth now...which is awesome.
