Then it’s a Dolson failure. If you have top resources, you get a guy that HAS something to close with. And you use those resources to close and then win.

Beard for example would’ve put us back on the map immediately. Maybe even Will Wade.

Pay enough to coax someone else with Swagger.

Like I say, Woodson basketball was awful and I’m just ready for anything else. So for that, I’m happy.

However we didn’t have to blue collar our way back into this thing with our resources. Like I’ve said elsewhere, this is the Cubs approach to things. Fanbase will support regardless, but I’d imagine we’ve got to be closing in on testing that theory with this hire.

This i agree with, and is also why I still have faith in the hire. Dolson knew the hire was his name on the line this time, and I think he's a smart guy. That, and we know the body of work for CDD thus far is good. The only thing missing is popularity so it requires a climb, and fortunately it seems (to me, anyway) like we have a coach who isn't afraid of it.

As a Cub fan I know exactly what you mean, and they still got it done albeit with a hell of a wait. But man was it sweet.

Hopefully the Indiana drought remains a much smaller version of that. It can be done, it just won't be meteoric.

So, if it’s not true, why has IU been a middle of the pack team the past 8 or so seasons?

You could probably take that back to the Crean years as well.   Besides a couple of good runs he mostly was middlE of the pack.   Other programs have stepped up while IU struggled over the last 20 years.  Those programs put in money to compete and equal the playing field.   Bad coaching, bad players, bad administration and other programs stepping up moving up the ladder while IU dropped.  Sucks for young fans like you however that’s your program you are invested in. Just a middle of the pack B1G program that doesn’t stick out from the rest.  Other teams used to be intimidated by the name now 0 programs in the B1G are scared of IU and the mostly expect to beat them.   Kid from Rutgers a couple years said it on a podcast. Nobody is scared or cares about IU. Just another team and we expect to win every time we play them.   Embrace the grind to getting out of the middle of the pack

Alternatively, a new coach with top of the conference resources is struggling to land assistants and players.

Do you want him to settle for coaches and players just to get them? I mean there is still like 7 months before season even starts. Give the guy a chance.

No, I would like him to land the coaches and players that he targets and for said players/coaches to be top tier.

I also dont want players who will only come here because of money.

That will never end well and guaranteed to result in a toxic locker room

Iu basketball has been terrible for multiple decades.

This is not going to change overnight

IU football was probably the worst P5 program in the country and it changed overnight. Great coaches make immediate impacts. Will DD? We’ll find out.

It could though. Buy the best talent and winning will usually take care of itself

Excuses.  Tell that to Coach Cignetti.

How many 5 star players did he have?

Thats my entire point. I dont want the coach to just throw money at the best players. Money cannot and should not be why they come here. Because that will cause locker room issues.

Edit: how many people here honestly thought that our football team would actually make the CFB playoffs prior to the season actually starting?

Several pages of handwringing will immediately be moot if Wilkerson commits.

I'm not alarmed yet but I think it’s fair to have some criticisms/concerns, though of course we have imperfect information. I would suggest it’s too early to jump from those concerns to Eeyore though.

I’m not against DD.  I’m looking forward to the fall and the product we see on the court.  It wasn’t directed at you, but what I disagree with, is that because we have been mediocre the last several years it’s going to take time to work back up.  Not with the right guy at the top it won’t.  Is DD the right guy?  I hope so maybe but we don’t know yet.
