Class of '66 Old Fart

Transfer Portal w IU Interest

I'm 50/50 on the Ballo news. The positives are obvious.

He would add very good defensive and rebounding capabilities. Very good finisher around the rim too.

But how does he co-exist with Reneau though? I would hope to see Reneau step out and shoot maybe 3-4 3s per game if we land a post presence like Ballo.

Malik has a respectable enough shot from outside that defenses have to account for.

Maybe we can actually go 4 out 1 in.

I believe it's because Rice has never confirmed it with anyone but this weekend was still the plan.

NGW/Tyme alluding that Rice's visit is just smoke. Any confirmation on your end when he might land on campus?

Which I think can happen, just not sure it will. I do think Reneau and Mgbako will rebound better next season. That's why I don't think we need to add another big

I agree that we don't necessarily need another big (or at least a big that is going to start, but rather one to backup) but we know that we are going to bring in another big (that's probably for the Woodson thread, though, if we are talking about what we should do as opposed to what it going to happen).  With Payne, Ballo, and Williams all visiting, we know we are going to bring in a starting post.

Reneau is the key to the whole situation to the spacing issue.  Personally, I like Reneau but we could use him to be more a perimeter/driving option.  The truth is he game did grow last year and hopefully it grows even more next year.

If Woody is not going to change to a guard heavy offense and one big we might as well throw a whole pile at the best one we can get. Ballo is as good a 5 as I would guess we see in the portal this spring. Gotta think competition will be stiff for his services and pricey. Probably prefer someone like Payne off the bench in a 6th man role, but as others have stated, probably a pipe dream and he wants starting minutes.

The more I think about it the more I think it would be worse than last year. At least last season Ware could step out and hit a 3 or jumper. Ballo can't do anything other than clog the paint. Hard pass for me, also because he would demand a huge NIL deal. Let another team empty their NIL on him not us

Absolutely get it.  He can't bail out an absolutely pathetic offensive possession like Ware did last year a lot.  I just think from a rebounding and defensive aspect, he would be a major plus.  But it does hurt offensively. I guess I hope our guard situation improves from "absolutely dreadful" to at least "serviceable" to help offset that.
