Prediction time with an epiphany:

Of the six remaining open spots, two will be either D2, D3, NAIA, or completely off the radar foreign players that Hulls got word about.

They will come cheap, and after filling out the squad with four good gets? Watch this happen.

It would be nice if we started recruiting foreign players again, that’s been a blind spot for a while now. Moren seems to do alright….

I tend to agree. It’s worth a shot. I like the foreign route better maybe but I like betting on guys that have shown they can play the game and hit shots.

Not every thread needs to have sarcastic Woody comments in them because many dislike him.   Been a lot of this drifting into both of the portal threads.  Please keep your comments to players in the portal and your sarcasm in the Fire Coach Woodson thread.  Most appreciated.
They can't help themselves. We all know he should have been gone this year , but it doesn't need to be said thousands of times in every thread.

Tristen Newton, all-American UConn guard, is 1) an East Carolina up transfer, who 2) coming into tonight has shot 31.9% on 3s this year.

Now of course he plays with Cam Spencer (44%) and Alex Karaben (38%).

But UConn’s other two starters, Castle and Clingan, are non-shooters (<30%).

They have one of the top 5 Kenpom offenses of all time.

Please, if we land a guard who isn’t Steph or Reggie or Ray Allen, don’t assume he can’t help IU win.

Seems like you're leaving out a pretty important detail.

That is the philosophy of the new IU FB coach ... stars mean nothing.

We need tempo pushers/setters, and guys that can get their own, first, the 3s will come

That’s not normally my default position, but I think with Woody and this team you are exactly right. If we’re going to inject some offense into this team the best way to do that is with the type of player you describe.

I’m guessing we got nowhere with the Harvard kid because i haven’t read anything here about it. He seems like the prototype for that role.

IMO- Carlyle and Rice do too

What if I told you Mack shot 25% from 3 in league play at 5.5 attempts a game.. is he still priority #1 in the portal? And that was in the ivy league

That doesn’t bother me too much, without knowing more context. 1) Freshman sometimes wear down and/or get tripped up by better scouting in conference play, and 2) didn’t he get injured right before then?  Looks like everything went down post injury.

I don’t know if he’s my #1 but definitely the type of player. Even with the 2nd half slump, he finished at 34% on more than 5 attempts from 3 as a freshman.

If Carlyle and Rice bring that, then great.

Yes, against... not Power 5 competition, MM had a great year. I am by NO means saying Malik isn't going to be great at the power 5 level...

But it IS reasonable to believe Kanaan and Myles are better.

What are some thoughts on Johnell? I would have been excited for him if we had hired Dusty, but I do not think Michigan is a slam dunk at all based on Dickinson's comments last year about their NIL. Seems like if I was in his shoes as a grad transfer I would be looking for a team that needed a PG and could maximize my earning potential. Pretty impressive shooting splits. And obviously he is from Gary. He is not on the ITH list, maybe because of 1 year remaining? I probably prefer multi year eligibility guys, but I really like Johnell.
