Is Estrella someone you overpay for? Genuinely asking? I think he’s solid no doubt but a big man with a history of foot injuries isn’t something to take lightly. It’s rumored he got somewhere between $2.5-3mil to go to Michigan? Is he worth $3.5-$4mil to IU? I don’t know that he is, especially if Fru is asking ~$3mil who I think is better.

Maybe, maybe not. Lots of Centers out there I like.  Some more. But we need to pay for what we want. But we aren’t gonna convince a player with our results, so we need to convince the identified player some other way. Money. Building a ‘super team’.

How was Michigans 10 + years before that tanked season?  Howard being the train wreck he was still coached Michigan in an elite 8 game.   Michigan was in far better shape than IU was.    I’m not convinced May picks IU over Michigan if he had the choice between the 2

lol.  Indiana ain’t got any Juice. And especially DeVries. Maybe should have kept Woodson on as the Closer.

This was always gonna be this way unless we overpay.  We aren’t willing to overpay, so we will get what we get.  I’ve been ahead of this from the beginning. Could see exactly how it was going to go.

When we sign another middling roster during the pay to play era, the fanbase will respond accordingly.  Simple as that.

Exactly.  Players know we are in a spot with nobody on the roster.  They are using us to get more money.  We are trying to swing for the fences and missing.  I personally do not know if they come EVEN if we overpay.

No doom and gloom.  Not giving up.  I have never personally thought we were getting top talent.  I am unconvinced the staff can close.  There is nothing proven yet.  And selling bringing IUBB back from the ashes is tired IMO.

HOPEFULLY Carr is good at his job.  We get some under the radar guys to commit and we can get in the tournament safely, beat NW next year, and create some momentum in the off season.

You and I will never agree on this.  No self imposed limitations. Michigan was in the tank 2 years ago.  Now they are top of the sport two years later with the right hire and resources. Louisville is better with a corny coach. They aren’t great but they are in top 25 status with potential to do more each season.  That all I really ask of Indiana to start.  Other examples of programs becoming relevant with money.  BYU. Etc.

If our Nil is legitimately top 20, the expectations will always be there. How would we be feeling if we just had the season Iowa had and then you give McCollum 14-16 million to build his ideal roster.

Problem right now is DeVries wasted the most important year 1.  No he (we) has to pay for it.

Past does not forecast future particularly when resources are as important as they are.

Safe to say Louisville, BYU, etc haven’t sunk a majority of their resources into a national championship caliber football program and coach and because of that are better equipped to spend on basketball?

The narrative on Iowa is sickening. They were .500 in the B10 with losses to bottom feeders Penn State and Maryland despite having a very favorable conference schedule. They had a nice tournament run but as we know a single tournament run doesn’t define a coach.

He wasn’t coming to IU regardless. That’s why Woodson got a 4th year.

Leave out this one line and you are a valuable poster who is sharing thoughts and providing a valuable perspective. But you can’t help yourself. The biggest god complex I’ve seen on the board since Scotty came around telling us how to be good fans.

Holy cow. That would be an insane get

Michigan and Michigan St were the perceived leaders due to his hometown. What’s Michigan State planning to do?  They don’t usually spend huge in the portal.  They’d be the obvious choice otherwise.
