The best guys were going for 2-4 million this cycle. We only spent top for 1 guy. Lots of “names” out there, we just didn’t really want to get into bidding wars for them despite the money.

Team chemistry will be better. Coaching will be better. “Talent”. Let’s see. Hope we are finally the team that identifies the talent first.

Just such a very odd off season from start to finish.

Quick morning FYI.   Harris arrived yesterday afternoon and his visit was scheduled to run through this morning for anyone concerned there wasn't any kind of official news last night.

do i have some concerns about having one guy currently over 6'9"?  Sure, BUT it is what it is.  CMW tried the towers exercise and well that had its high and lows throughout the season.  Same can be said the year before with MR and Ware.  

I am sure we'll have some headaches given our height issues this year and rebounding concerns.  I think having guys that have a knack for rebounding at a higher % while being 6'8" is a good offset IF you have multiples of them.  Let's get Harris(sounds promising), nab Leo and go into summer full speed

You guys are way overthinking this height thing! If DDV gets 5 to work as 1 on defense, which I think he will, our defense will be pretty good. Can make up some height with wingspan and vertical.

Rebounding with 'smaller bigs' is no problem whatsoever.

Rim protection is more of an issue.

WVU did not have a significant rim protector last year did they?  If not, does anyone know if that became an Achilles heel issue last year or did they manage it through team D.

They did not. But they also had 2-3 high level wing defenders including Sencire Harris who is one of the best on-ball defenders in the country.

Yup. Rebounding is technique and want to. And you can mitigate rim protection some by controlling dribble penetration. We’ll see how that goes. I’d be more worried about teams who’ll just play through the post. Purdue, MSU, maybe Illinois. But then you just have to work those matchups on the other end. A kid like Kohler might be able to put 18 and 10 on you, but can Izzo keep him on the floor if he can’t match up and he’s distorting their defense? Would be interesting.

Harris had great numbers as a FR... 

6'8 220 

In his first 11 games (4 against P4 teams) he averaged 16p 7r .. 64.7% FG 

UNF won @ SC and @ GT early in year.  Harris had a big game at GT. 

In the 12th game he sprained his ankle, sat 2 games... and avgs after that--- 11.7p 7r 49.7% FGs

Also... we've had "rim protection" for 7 years at IU... hasn't amounted to much.

Harris is young and grew from 6’2” his frosh year to 6’8” by his senior season.  Lots of growth there in a short time.  Has a good frosh season so for balancing out the classes it is a good pickup.
