Transfer Portal w IU Interest

Prediction:

Enright - IU

Flory - Auburn

Dix - Illinois

Conwell - Louisville (although I thought he’d be at Texas)

There’s nothing IU can sell to championship level players other than cash.

The problem is in our arrogance, others have equally robust, if not more resources.

Other teams have gm’s in place, full staff’s, and news of being in on many of the top portal players so far. Something seems very off with Indiana. Feels like they haven’t gotten any of this **** figured out. If I had to bet, I’d say that we don’t even know who our full staff is and are scrambling to fill a roster that currently has 2 players.

People will get pissed at me for this but it’s just the same old cognitive dissonance.

The one constant over 3 decades is that Indiana University has no idea how to get basketball decisions right.

Like I said a couple days ago. I hope you guys are ready for a much longer build than what you were hoping for. The only path to winning for Indiana is a similar path that Purdue had to take with Painter. CDD is going to have to scout his @$$ off and win with the scraps and leftovers.

The best coach for that reality was Ben McCollum.

I’ll see myself out.

Coach DD doesn’t need “ championship” level players to win, and to win a lot.   Nobody is suggesting we’ll be competing for championships next year.   First order of business is to get the right dudes together, and win enough games to be upper side of Big10 and a solid team to make the dance (no more of this bubble chit).   Then work from there.

This feels right on at the moment. I didn’t want McCollum because he doesn’t know big boy recruiting and can’t/won’t win those battles. DeVries won’t be much better in that avenue it seems. Got a huge nil war chest but doesn’t want to spend it. We need 8-9 guys. Spend top dollar on 8-9 guys. Let SRSC guys fill 10-15.

If you blow your wad on the first guy, you’re not getting 8-9 guys.  You’ll be down scouting the hyper to fill the roster using free coupons to Buffalouies.

That’s what Louisville is doing. If we have 10 million. Spend 1-2 million on starters. 300-500 k on 6-9. Scout SRSC guys 10-13.

Last thing I'll say tonight: Coach DeVries could land the 92 dream team for next year. He has to start winning this season. Most of us were excited last year about the portal haul and it resulted in nothing. I'm very optimistic about the program going forward. I get the frustration though...we are all tired of mediocre basketball.

I wouldn't be happy if he landed the '92 Dream Team. None of those guys have eligibility left plus they're quite old.

We like to brag about our bag. Top 10 money etc. And everyone else out there getting the players. High school or otherwise. If ya got the bag, get flashy and make a move.

Don’t fool yourselves, DeVries came to Indiana because we have the bag. It’s not our history or anything else. It’s that we can outspend West Virginia for example. He can maybe win with less. Maybe. But he wants to win with more and that’s why he’s here. Let’s see what happens.

Lots of good players might pop in the portal over the next week. Hopefully some better options because Conwell was the best 2G on the market. Next option is Rice maybe? Idk. It’s a fall off right now.

You're expectations should be higher. 26-9 is roughly the average between Pope, Kelsey and May in their first year. Why should DD not be expected to deliver that? Didn't DD fall into the "with our resources" category? Lol.

I hate the state of the program. 25 years of mismanagement. I think it's probably time for my old a55 to just be a basketball fan.

We've said a lot that the next coach has to win right away... that's true to keep fans happy and should be the expectation with our resources. But we're going to have to build this thing up from the bottom. No fast track for being IU. Even in the portal era it may take a couple years for a good coach to really get this thing rolling. The delayed gratification is what will eventually make winning big so sweet.

Well folks better pack it up. Season's over. Maybe we make the tourney in 2027.

You realize there is a middle ground between that and "everything's fine" right?  Isn't a dead period quickly approaching?  We have a ton of positions to fill and he has to make a splash this year.

The real annoying thing is that I think the school once again ****ed itself by not making a move on Woodson last year knowing that was the likely outcome anyway and it appears to have been a massive mistake as 3 close by schools all reloaded and are now going to be competition for local guys.

Hope things start shaking out here soon and, no offense to him, but I hope the caliber of players is higher than Enright.  A team full of that talent level is going to be hard to get where I think most of us expect to be next year.

He isn't going to get delayed gratification.  If we miss the tournament again next year his seat is warm.  Everybody knows that.  There are 3 local examples, 1 with an IU alum that a big portion of the fanbase thinks we should have had if the administration knew what the heck it was doing, that showed you shouldn't have to wait to "build it the right way."

If we are going to build over time, just give the money to football so we have something to enjoy.  You spend $11 million to win NOW.

This will be the 4th coach in 10 years. IU's problem has been bad coaching hires, not the fan base. If we fire everyone after 3-4 years because they don't win big right away, we're going to be doing this into oblivion. I guess that's one approach.

Like it or not... fans may have to wait two or three years for it to be really rolling. We're not the employer here telling them their seat is warm after one year. We can throw money at whoever... this cycle is still not going to net the best version of DDV's roster because he has no track record here/momentum behind the program currently.

A year like Louisville's would be very nice. Something less than that is also going to have to be acceptable. IUBB is in no position to act like we're above anything. We have to earn everything from the ground floor up like any other P5 program.

I don't think anyone expects to compete for a title yesr one; but being in the tournament and possibly winning a game should absolutely be the expectation with no excuses. We need to stop lowering expectations and making excuses, coaches are paid as much as they are for a reason and that reason isn't "well, I tried".
