Nate Oates is hilarious.

I would think Sean Miller would have the inside track at that job. I feel like that would make sense.

Lamont Paris is from Findley, Ohio, and has South Carolina is rolling this year at 20-3

I'm too lazy to look but if my memory serves correctly Oats, McDermott and Moser have pretty big buyouts. Which might not be a big thing to OSU

They're $14 million in the hole to Holtmann. Even for the wealthiest programs, after a while it starts to add up.

You really discount his D2 accomplishments all because you went to school with him. That doesn’t make him a better candidate. But as I said, I don’t want either.

I want someone who gets IU. Who understands the pressure of coaching here. But I also would enjoy the benefits of an old acquaintance being the head coach.

I wonder if Purdue wins the tourney this year (I know, I vomited in my mouth just typing that), would that give IU the kick in the pants needed to try and turn our basketball program around?

Purdue won't win

The exact quote I got from a family member of May's is that he "Would walk from Florida to Bloomington for the IU job"

Stuff like this makes me keep going back to wondering if Dolson knows this about May, has already had discussions about being the guy after Woodson, and is a matter of just sitting tight at FAU until they get Woodson to hang it up. Could be pretty telling if these other destinations open up and Dusty chooses to stay at FAU instead of accepting other jobs. Unless stuff really hits the fan this season and Dolson calls him up and says hey we’re ready for you now.

Well, Trilly who some here think is full of it, stated in a private chat that May would leave any school for IU when open outside of a Duke type. That is where it is coming from. He said it is the “worst kept secret in all of ball on how bad he wants it.” He later said yes, he would see him leave an OSU etc to come to IU a year or 2 later.

Yes, but would IU pay the buyout?  Assuming Dusty gets a 6 year/18 million dollar deal from another school, IU could be looking at a 15 million dollar buyout.  Would the AD look stupid paying that buyout if he could have avoided it by moving on May one year sooner?  These are questions that the Administration should be having internally at this time.

It would just be nice to have him instead of CJ Gunn, he would be a part of what we need. I am still frustrated with our process to get good shots, more so than anything. CE needs people or a system to get shots for him, nothing wrong with that. Undoubtedly the depth would have been huge.

He mostly does, but Reneau being an automatic double would be enough to get him multiple open shots a game. His defense is probably serviceable enough with the right scheme.  Surrounding Reneau with guys like him, Mbako and McNeely next year wouldn’t be a championship roster because of defense, but it could be one heckuva offensive force with the right coach and possibly a good pg addition.

FWIW, I have my own reasons to believe @ISP ‘s assessment of the situation is correct.

We've discussed this many times there is no comparison to Archie other than being short & blonde. Archie coached at Dayton which has been a great program that a lot of coaches have been through. Dusty started at FAU where they had never had a winning season in 15 years of D1 basketball. He's had a winning season in every season leading them to the final four.

Every starter could have entered the portal to get money from NIL which FAU doesn't have much of. But he kept all the starters, joined a tougher conference, and has been ranked in the top 25 all season. They are set to make another deep run. He was a manager under Knight, studied Stevens, and coached under Davis and Mike White. He studies basketball 24/7. He grew up in Bloomington, he knows what this means.

So if you are going to call him the flavor of the month, at least be correct and say the flavor of the last 24 months. He turned down big offers last year and he's going to other big offers this year.

I’ve already mentioned this, my biggest fear is hire him and he flops, just like Archie did and Archie was the flavor of the month.  I have nothing against the guy; I just want us to get the hire right for once.  I still think trying to get a proven coach at a power 5 school would give the fan base the warm and fuzzies but hiring a guy like May, there is a little apprehension for many of us.  I am at the age, that if we flop, I may never see a FF or potential championship in my youthful years. The Archie hire soured me on hiring the next best coach at the mid-major level.  So please understand where us elderly, lol, are coming from.  The freaking Administration better damn get it right this time and quit meandering around

I never said he was wrong. All I said was--- he has to get in the portal before we can offer him. I mean-- you've seen him play. He's better than Gunn and Leal. Throw TG in there, and I for sure agree with you.

Well, I understand where your coming from. But I hope you will trust me and know it's not a big risk. I promise you he's not Archie

I mean... it's been like an 11-month flavor at this point.

I don't understand how May isn't proven, but some are? Who is proven, or more proven than May, and we could realistically get? Doug McDermott? I'd be fine with him.

I don't understand, at all, the worry of hiring a mid-major coach, compared to a Pw5 one.
