to second what ap said, i didn't see much. Trilly asked who you are and several explained. One guy said something about you but was quickly told he must be following over here that closely. The general main consensus over there would love to have you. we take care of our own over there too.

If you take our Chris away we will find you.  Chris you may go but you can't also leave.  ;)

Hubert Davis at UNC, not doing well this season but got to the championship game a couple of years ago

He’s the next Tubby, Davis, Ollie, Weber, etc.  Inherited a HOF coach’s players and had a nice year of 2 then all downhill once he had to do things on his own.

They offered a scholarship, but waited way too long. Purdue got to him early and stayed on him. Dumbest thing Archie did.

Matt Painter was on the radio today and asked him about getting Smith. He said Purdue offered on a Thursday and was the first power conference to offer him and in within 12 hours he committed to Purdue. So hearing that it doesn't sound like  IU offered at all

No speculation required to know Izzo hasn’t hired him back after all these years. Maybe he really is happier in insurance…

Just saying, nobody knows why Izzo didn't hire him back. To speculate that it's because he was tired of his antics is a bit silly given how long he was there. Moving on

Hammer and Rails had an interesting piece about IU/Purdue. Don't know that I agree about their view of how we recruit/don't recruit the state however. I think we just suck at recruiting the state. They seemed to believe that IU believes they're above recruiting the state

You are right….! As soon as Purdue offered, 24 hours later he committed to Purdue. Again, dumbest thing IU did. I thinks we had him if we would have offered. He said he always thought he would go to IU.

Worth noting that Matt Painter spent ten years as an assistant, a year as a head coach, and another where he served as a head-coach-in-waiting under Keady.  Sheyer spent nine years as an assistant at Duke before getting the head job.

The difference is that by the time they got there head jobs, they were no longer just ex-players.

Sure, it is possible for someone to become a good head college coach immediately....just not very likely.

Woody believes he’s above a lot of things. That’s the main reason.

Painter said any power team that was the first to offer was going to get him because Smith wanted to prove he can play at that level.

Archie didn't recruit him the way he should have and did he ever offer?

The only offers Braden Smith has listed on 247 are Toledo, Montana, Appalachian State, and Purdue.  Lots of people missed on him.

Yes, IU never offered. It was thought that if they did offer, he would commit on the spot or close to it. Similar to what you just said happened with Purdue offering. Some people were pretty high on him, a lot of others had doubts and wanted higher rated players.

One of those that wanted higher rated players was Woodson. Big miss by him but to be fair, Smith likely wouldn't have prospered in Woodson's system like he has at PU. The same could be said about Miller's system.

Reminds me of Aaron Henry.  While everyone wondered if he was good enough to play at IU and IU waited too long to offer, he jumped at an offer to play for Michigan State.  Three years later he was a three year starter and put up 15.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists as a junior.
