How could he still think it was the iu of the 80's? Did he never ever come back and visit or follow the teams? That just seems delusional to think it was still the same program.

If he was 'Team Knight', there was no way Woody came back until Coach finally buried the hatchet. And even in that ceremony just before COVID, if any of them stayed for that 2nd half, they would've seen how much of a s**t show the program had become.

I think he thought that the Indiana across the chest still meant something. That it kind of recruited itself. Also that his NBA background could get 5 star guys here.
Sadly it has not meant much in quite awhile. Your nba background only takes you so far if you cannot win. Most kids still want a winning program.

Trent Sisley signed back in November. But maybe we shouldn't give Woodson any credit there, because he was probably coming to IU no matter what.

My apologies for a dumb attempt at a joke.

Forgot about Trent

By many accounts, he's a fantastic person. My cousin who knows him very well talks about his character. I think he's way over his head and is embarrassed by his performance thus far.

He needs to start showing that he’s a good person instead of the way he treats fans, other coaches, and other athletic departments.  It’s called paying forward and I have yet to see that.

I have a background that attaches criminal culpability to words like "stealing," so that type of language tends to get me barking back.

Appreciate the kind words and you are more than welcome to post your unrestrained opinions! ...but I'm allowed to bark back  :)

OK Stuhoo we need an updated ranking of who is the leader of “Who hates Mike Woodson Club”… the most? I have my opinions, but you have final say.

Haha…

I guess it’s an ongoing sweepstakes and we may have a new current leader!

All jokes aside about Woodson beating up old ladies and stealing their money?!…

I’m assuming the vast majority of us believed we were getting a coach either the perfect combo of hard play, fundamentally sound Coach Knight tradition and the application of NBA-style offense/recruiting/salespitch.

We ended up with neither. Maybe a whiff of that salespitch but it’s been a marriage from hell for most of us.

I figured it most likely wss doomed to fail from day one because he is an NBA guy. It was a baffling hire I can't think of one coach who came from the nba to college and had great success. Most fail miserably. Pitino and calipari don't count as they coached college first.

OT -- A while back I thought Larry Brown started coaching in college.  Well, he did as an assistant, but his HC career started in the ABA.  Maybe it's just me and my age, but I didn't realize how many jobs he had before Kansas!

1965–1967 North Carolina (assistant)
1972–1974 Carolina Cougars
1974–1979 Denver Nuggets
1979–1981 UCLA
1981–1983 New Jersey Nets
1983–1988 Kansas
1988–1992 San Antonio Spurs
1992–1993 Los Angeles Clippers
1993–1997 Indiana Pacers
1997–2003 Philadelphia 76ers
2003–2005 Detroit Pistons
2005–2006 New York Knicks
2008–2010 Charlotte Bobcats
2012–2016 SMU
2018 Auxilium Torino
2021 Memphis (assistant)
2022 Memphis (advisor to HC)

Even for this thread, that's a terrible post.

This was never about job performance for some. This is retribution for the butt hurt “fans” who were told to chill out after getting worked into a frenzy over fabricated reports from Rabjohns, “insiders”, etc believing Bruce Pearl was coming to coach the Hoosiers. Nothing more, nothing less.

I would say for most, it’s a bit about what you just posted and more than a bit about job performance. I also think it’s more than a little bit about Woody’s public persona, which clearly rubs many the wrong way whether he’s a really good guy or not.

You may not agree with the persona dislike by so many, but it’s real and it’s relevant.

Nope. Many of us wanted him gone from day 1 because we saw how bad of a hire he was. Nearly four years later and he’s done nothing to show otherwise - both on and off the court.

Maybe a little, but it's mostly job performance.  The things most people noticed were (i) we finished the season in the 90's (as in over 90 teams were ahead of us) in the NET and KenPom, not close to making the tourney, and (ii) we had no (zero) HS recruits.  That's very bad.

Sure enough.

But years one and two went pretty well. However, when a coach in his mid 60’s is at the helm there’s a win-now dynamic that needs to trend toward an ultimate success without much drop off.

What is Woody’s public persona? He’s arrogant and egotistical? Fits the persona of 95% of those who coach at high level jobs. People felt they were personally wronged on senior day. I stand by that.
