Recruiting the '26 HS class, which is a process that starts next year, isn't really doable when those kids see the coach's contract expires in '26, meaning they only have one year with the coach and his job isn't secure to begin with. It's a terrible signal. Even the '25 portal players will struggle with this dynamic. go iu bb 1

Next year we will have a new coach, a portal heavy roster, Trent Sisley, and hopefully a few key holdovers. kottke, akumanina, WayneFleekHoosier and 1 other 4

I have never wanted IU to lose, in anything, but this year I hope the team makes it to the Elite 8/FF (not holding my breath) or doesn’t make the tourney at all. Missing the tourney would hopefully lead to Woody being fired while an Elite 8 would give him the “Mike Woodson came and did the job” excuse to retire. In either case he would be gone. But….win 20 and one game in the tourney and he might get another year. With this roster and this talent, a 20-win season is a massive failure. Whatever the outcome, just get rid of The Mediocre One. Can't wait to say "Bigfoot has left the building"... tkbbn 1

Lack of extension coupled with the lack of statement of support from the AD after last season would show that the AD isn't really behind him. That will hurt recruiting from both the portal and HS. His main supporter at IU, QB, will be a lame duck when the season ends since his term will end in 2025, I believe end of June. So QB isn't going to be able to save him this year. Rich donors? I doubt they'd be happy with the results of their big NIL contributions for this team if it's 20 wins and barely making the tournament. The attendance appears to be down which shows the fans are tuning out. Dolson will have more cachet after making the Cignetti hire in football.

He can't function properly as a coach with two years on his deal. Even his best pal donors aren't gonna have much of a case here barring a huge turnaround. Anyone with any sort of connections to the program is hearing this. Good point on attendance. The apathy must be noticed and probably factors in. I do think we get better and make the tourney, there is still talent on this team, but our seeding won't be great and big neutral floor games are not Woody's specialty. We'll see. What a mess. go iu bb 1

This is part of the reason why I didn't want a former player hired in the first place for fear that it would turn into a situation like this. The other reason is that none of the former players are good enough as coaches. I thought if one were to be hired it would be Alford. Better coach than Woodson but still not good enough and comes with completely different baggage. tkbbn and Kentuckysucks 2

It's so much easier now with NIL -- the coach doesn't need to be a recruiting savant, which mostly used to mean under the table payments, something IU didn't do much of. It's all above board now and we're a big time player. Get someone who knows the modern game/strategy and can develop players, bring them and their whole staff, give them the big checkbook, and there we go. I think Scott gets it and has a good chance to get it right. That said, if anyone is apprehensive after the last 25 years of screw-ups, I get it, and I am too to some extent. akumanina, Kentuckysucks, Stuhoo and 2 others 5

However once the job comes open and Dolson approaches him without all the other people that butted in last time. The odds would likely go up. There's a lot more details on Steven's I've shared before but I do believe there would be a chance if done correctly. May, I do believe he would strongly consider taking the job for several different reasons. Pearl's violations wouldn't be a problem now and Dolson was talking to him last year. It wouldn't be a problem. Ok good to know on all of that, thank you for the info! So that gives us a very solid list of good candidates then. Also I agree on the Dolson only or him and Pam approach giving a much better chance for success. That's very good news too that we them on our short list! Appreciate the education! Pagoda 1
