Likely so. If Calapari was the head coach or even Mussleman, this team is ranked in the Top 10.

The comments from Barrel Rick in the BM thread are just so damning. Has to have a great year. Sure HS recruiting is less important but it still matters to a degree. Relying on the portal consistently every cycle is going to be a great way to end up as a middling team that hands out phat checks for mediocre results.

Take Underwood out of that group.  He in no way deserves to be mentioned with either of them.  

He is crazy overrated now for some reason.  He is an average coach at best.

It pisses me off that Woodson still has no clue. Sure, he can buy pretty much whomever he wants in the portal, at least for the time being. But he continues to demonstrate his lazy approach to HS recruiting.

How many of these kids, who grew up Hoosier fans and dreamed of donning the candy stripes has he lost because he simply doesn’t want to put in the effort to show them that he’s remotely interested in them coming to IU?

Imagine if RMK had ignored him the same extent that is is ignoring these kids…

Happy Friday yall. 

I guess I’m confused.

We heard so much from a handful of people how recruiting has changed because of the portal and NIL. That the vast majority of recruits care most about money. It is true that any particular HS recruit is less important. Relying on the portal every cycle is still not a proven strategy. And we just basically got veritable truth that our staff is the reason an in state 5 star is choosing to go elsewhere. If Woody weren’t an IU guy, people wouldn’t bend over backwards to explain away why this doesn’t matter so much (even if there’s some merit to their points). In any case, we can patently say that money is NOT the main factor for a lot of top talent. You have to win too. We’ve got a great team for this year. If this one doesn’t win at a high level and we bring him back, the staff will have a very tough time in the portal IMO and we will be forced to move on because they will be dead ducks in the water.

In an extra pi$$y mood today.

Woodson is getting his **** pushed in on recruiting trail. Again. Has to win this year.

Seem to recall Woodson and Hurley barking at each other a little during the game at MSG. Hurley will definitely find a way to get a jab or two in about taking an Indiana kid when Mullins is actually on their roster. And the worst part is, UConn doesn’t have any respect for IU as a program or a team. No fear, because they know they’d kick our a$$ on the court if we play. Even this year where they’re supposed to be “down” and we’re, on paper, extremely talented… I wouldn’t bet on us against them. Wouldn’t bet at all. I want a coach who exudes that kind of confidence. Instead we’ve got one who thinks he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. I bet taking recruits from Mike Woodson is easier than taking candy from a baby.

Spending money on players and the transfer portal is a lazy coaches dream come true.  Woodson is by far one of the laziest coaches I’ve ever seen.  Tom Crean would blow him out of the water in todays recruiting landscape

I recently listened to an interview Matt Norlander had with Woodson and he just flat out exudes not having any energy. 

Maybe some of it had to do with the sound, but man did he just sound frail and weak. 

Now imagine you're a kid being recruited by him, or are in the locker room expecting to get fired up by your head coach. I just don't see it.
