Early 60’s isn’t old. He has a solid 7-8 years left of coaching. That’s plenty of time for Him to make IU a top program again. Then it’s in a much better spot for the next guy. There is less risk because there is a long track record of success. The younger guys is a bigger gamble. No track record beyond a single group of players. It’s why so many mid major coaches that jump up a level after a good run in March flame out.

It’s real old in coach years. He’s already talking retirement and succession plans.

And the job is only better for the next guy if you fire him/he retires at his peak. But we know IU won’t do that, thus it is entirely likely he runs the program back to mediocrity in old age.

We just went for a “bridge guy” in Woody. It’s a failed concept because he didn’t hand the reigns off after his high water mark off last year. Guys making $4/yr don’t tend to do that. Pearl wouldn’t either.

Bridge guy to me is 2-3 years not 4-5 years. He clearly never intended to be a bridge guy that was another lie.

I hope Dusty stays away from WVU.  Huggins still wants to coach and there are people that want Huggins to be the coach.  WVU is a toxic job imo.

You could also say the IU job is kind of toxic, and that the Big 12 is a better basketball conference than the B1G 10. I assume Okla State will open up (if it hasn’t already)

It’s already open.

It is open and from what I've read - Alford is a target. Good luck with that, OSU

I'm guessing it's an announcement about what his finalist are.

Hopefully IU doesn’t even make the list. Not like Mediocre Mike could land him anyway. And having the top recruit in the in-state class not even give IU the time of day is just one more log for the fire.

That makes sense.  Thought it was early for a final announcement.  I don't think we get him if Woodson is still around anyways...

He talks to Woodson a lot supposedly so I doubt they'd miss out as a finalist

If I were at OkSU I think I’d be going after Devries (Drake coach)

Maybe Alford ends up a candidate here but I think the frontrunners are: Darian DeVries (Drake), Bryce Drew (Grand Canyon), Paul Mills (Wichita State this past season but previously had done a good job at Oral Roberts), Stephen Gentry (associate head coach at Gonzaga and former assistant at OK State), Danny Sprinkle if he does not get the Washington job.

They are looking at him but it also sounds like Michigan is in the mix with him as well.

No he's not. DeVries, Wade, Buzz Williams, Steve Lutz and Danny Sprinkle are the real names in the mix.

Despite our feelings about the program, it’s still good press to include IU on your list until announcing your final decision. Keeps eyes on you and still holds clout as a historic program for those following the recruitment. We’ve seen this with several recruits lately having IU in their finalists to make their announcement a bigger event.

Is there a link for the portal list?

There's some secondary websites that offer somewhat updated list but i have a bit more direct access to it. ;)
