Soon to RETIRE Coach Woodson Thread

Honestly the Stevens talk has become numb to me.  May and Hoiberg I'd be fine with.  Doubt May comes considering he just took over UM and is only in year 1.

Not sure what the chances are for Stevens, but I can say with some level of an informed opinion that the chances of Stevens are greater than the chances of Hoiberg or May. That's not to say that any of them is happening, so leave me the hell alone. But it's an informed opinion.

Clearly a huge miss but let’s face it, he wouldn’t have flourished under our coaching staff. We haven’t had a breakout talent in a longtime. Need a new staff to fix this.

He's probably Gabe Cupps at IU under Woodson.

Coach Cig type of player. It isn't about the stars its about the production. I went to see him play once (live in Westfield) before he committed and I wanted IU to offer him. He didn't even have a great game, but I could tell (even with my amateur level eye) he's the type of player that would help our program. His rebounding and command of the floor stood out to me.

There's probably lower odds of that then of me getting a date with newly single Jessica Alba.

And my odds are exactly 0.0%.

You never know, your odds might be a little higher with her than you think.  I’m 61 and I still think I have a shot!  ;)

It sure as heck higher than us beating Turdue by 40

Brownell is an interesting case.  His name has been mentioned in previous years given his Indiana ties, but the resume wasn’t there.  Last year’s E8 run and a senior led team this year that has the look of another NCAA run. Overall he has done well at a school that is tough to recruit to in that league and is well respected among peers.

If Dolson is speaking with Stevens, I could see BS advocating for BB, as they are both former DePauw players and seemingly have similar basketball philosophies.

I could see IU “settling” on BB after another run at BS and maybe Pearl, as his agent leverages us for a new facility and/or Steven named as coach in waiting.

Funny thing is I am not sure it is a given that BB would take it.  Have a family friend that was a Sigma Chi with him at DePauw and is part of a group that visits him every year at Clemson.  He has a pretty good set up there and maybe doesn’t want the fish bowl.  I don’t know that to be a fact tho.  Def wouldn’t win the presser but I do think he could be very good at IU, maybe not elite.

And look for Marty Simmons to make his long awaited (haha) return to Bloomington, if BB were to be hired.

He’d most likely end up like Crean in that it would be another decade of mediocrity with enough bright spots to keep him around for that decade.

He is another one nobody would consider if he didn’t come from Indiana and was buddies with Cheaney. .500 league record. Never finished higher than 3rd. 4/13 tourneys made. Tough place to coach but that isn’t elevating it that much.

With that said, I knew a guy on his staff at WS and they spoke pretty highly of him. He’d likely be our best coach since Knight. But they’ve all been so bad that it is a low hurdle to clear. I’d rather take a shot on a young guy with talent.

It's only six extra weeks to wait if that doesn't happen.

I'd very much prefer a 40 point IU win because Woody is gone at the end of the season anyway.

I am  honestly conflicted. Is there any way IU could win by 40 but Woodson lose by 40?

Say Woodson gets the flu can't coach and IU win at PU, comes back and they get hammered at Wisky.

I am curious has Indiana or would Indiana ever approach Painter. I get we have a less than one percent chance of him saying yes. But I would be curious if he told us to kick rocks immediately or at least listen.

There was a day when that would have been incredibly possible. Painter wanted to be a Hoosier so badly out of high school... Knight didn't give him the time of day and he went to Purdue. The rest is history.

But even if we did get Painter, we'd be assured of two things: we'd make the NCAA tournament every year and we'd crash and burn before seeing any glory.

Lol... It's my way of saying that I have what I consider reliable info that Stevens is more possible than May or Hoiberg. So that means that even if May and Hoiberg were zero chance, Stevens would be 'more than zero chance.'

And I don't call information reliable on a lark.

I think he and Calbert were high school teammates or played against each other. They're the same age I know that.

They both played at Harrison High. Brownell actually is about 3 years older.

He's interesting -- doesn't do enough at Clemson to be considered an elite coach, while doing just enough to not get fired. I think he's got the second-longest tenure among ACC coaches (behind Leonard Hamilton). Been there 15 or 16 seasons.

I hope the crowd doesn't chant Extend Mike Woodson tonight.

I can see Buckner texting Dolson saying see even the Purdue fans know Mike is good. HAHA

Haha, you beat me to it. I was gonna say something like Buckner saying “See! People want him to stay!”

Cliff Marshall lol

Nah. I watched him a couple times in high school and came away unimpressed. As was said earlier he was the beneficiary of a lot of surrounding talent and he had games where he would get hot on good looks. It wasn't Marshall in my opinion; it was D1 basketball.
