Fire Coach Woodson Thread

I’ve been silent since the end of last season, but here are random thoughts from a 50+ year fan and IU Alum…

  • IMO, it was somewhere between criminal and inconceivable that Mike Woodson was retained (and not fired for dereliction of duty) after last season.
  • Is it still early in the season, with a new group/roster? Yes.
  • Could this team turn it around and get things fixed and play much better. Yes.
  • Do we have realistic reason, based on observed performance, data, and information to believe they will? Sadly, no.
  • I can’t think of one thing Woodson’s teams do well, or have consistently done well. Not. One.
  • There is not one visible, observable thing I can think of that would give ANY indication that this man played for a championship level/hall of fame coach.
  • We have one of the be$t ro$ters money can buy and they look absolutely clueless, uninspired, and pathetic.
  • This team doesn’t even look like an acceptably competitive D1 team (last year’s didn’t either)
  • Seems like a reasonable, rational, unemotional observer would have to conclude that this isn’t working and it isn’t going to.
  • Seems like that same observer would have concluded (or been able to have concluded) this at least a year ago.

My conclusions:

  • Mike Woodson would never have been seriously considered, let alone hired, at IU if he had not played here.
  • Woodson never should have made it out of March as Indiana’s basketball coach.

And remember, the best predictor of future behavior is past relevant behavior. Your honor, I rest my case. Fire the bum today.

I think what’s driving me the most bonkers isn’t the loss, it’s that nothing about this game was a surprise or new. It’s what the not true fans have been screeching about. Losses like this are inexcusable at IU and Woody has like a half dozen of them. I’ll say this as well. This better be the end of the coaches need four years worldview at IU. With the portal and NIL, there are zero reasons to give a third or fourth year to a bad coach. None. Money will bring in players, coaches at IU don’t even need to be high level recruiters to get talent. Watching this absolute debacle all over again today feels like I’m taking crazy pills. The important people at IU saw what we saw the last three years, the building issues and thought, let’s not move on, let’s give him a blank check. The billionaires funding this farce are learning you can’t just throw money at this type of problem and fix it.

sorry for the rant, bourbon is cheap at the crib.

And sometimes rich people just spend money stupidly. Wasting 6mil on a roster that still has Woodson as coach qualifies.

The very definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. It's IUMBB's new motto

National media is turning on the guy. Going to be hard for those pro Woody people to control the narrative.

Woodson is a coach who has been entirely propped up by Indiana’s robust resources. Not at all by merit. He’s been given more said resources and internal support than any of his predecessors….By far! There’s been absolutely nothing to show for it other than off court wins.

I encourage everyone (myself included) to really try and leave out any personal attacks on Woody. It gets weaponized to discredit any reasonable frustrations we have. We have enough clear evidence to point to, that we don’t need any conjecture beyond the lack of on court results.

Side note: VERY interested in seeing what mental gymnastics are used, to minimize this loss, by the pro Woody camp.

Is saying he is lazy and seems to be a thin-skinned **** a personal attack?  Would that make me not a true fan?

Woodson nuked the "be nice" bridge on senior day last year.  He deserves all the criticism and most of the criticism you could level at him has smoke.

(So I guess that is a no from me on the high road.)

This loss was so embarrassing that the usual suspects aren’t even in here trying to justify it.

Last year, we allowed more points than we scored… that is unheard of at IU. I think with blowout losses like today, we are well on our way to doing this in back to back years

Bruce Pearl’s people reached out to IU & IU really chose sleepy Woodson and Armond Hill

IU needs a 20 pt loss tomorrow and a loss of any sort Friday. Gives Dolson the opportunity to be proactive & feel out coaches on the plane home.

Iowa St coach, Bruce Pearl, JMU HC. Who else we got on the board?

JMU HC took the Vandy job last coaching cycle

Ironic since @AH1971 insisted this place would be "like a morgue" by January since anyone believing Woodson to be less than an infallible god would be run off the board with their tail between their legs, ashamed to be so wrong about this team.

Not a peep out of him all night eh? Was he watching? Lol

You catch a lot of flack for "rooting for Woodson to lose more than IU to win" ... I think his steadfast support for Woodson may actually mean he in fact wants IU to lose far more than you do.

Normally I agree that it undermines your argument to get personal. But at this point, my question is really... who will weaponize that to discredit our frustrations? The two guys on the board who won't shut up about him?

The national media is turning... the athletic department ignored clearly frustrated fans last year. This was the gamble they took and risk they accepted. As you said the results are not there on the court and now the program is forced to endure a very precarious situation. I hope decisive action is being taken behind the scenes. We need a complete reset next year.

Burn it down. I don't give a toot who it upsets.

Honestly even as the #1 tank commander, a loss like today is just sad. Sad that a 30 point loss to a mediocre Louisville team doesn’t even phase me because I’ve become so accustomed to it. Sad that Mike Woodson being awful was so obvious, both at the time of his hiring and then this past offseason too, yet the administration saddled us with him. IU basketball is in a sad, sad place.

On the bright side, Coach Cig showed that the right guy can immediately turn around even the saddest of programs.

I’m just saying that I don’t think it will help us to get the end result we want.
