Fire Coach Woodson Thread

So is Dane Fife totally never an option to be on an IU sideline ever again?

As long as he's on board with NIL, I like the idea of him being on Dusty May's staff here to coach the defense.

Our defense has gotten progressively worse since he left after the first year and I wonder if that isn't a coincidence.

So much parity in college basketball that almost every candidate for IU is going to have head scratching losses.  The days of teams running the table in the conference are over or at least until the COVID seniors are done and you don’t have 25 year olds playing against 17-18 year olds.

Good to see that Woody has his priorities straight.

12 million buyout why not. Just trying to get ready for the NBA all-star game. An hour after the game was over I was way over knee deep in beers and pain-numbing things

Yes!! I've obviously forgotten, but someone please refresh our memory on the whole Fife situation!

This was me yesterday.  Doctor probably won't be happy when I get my physical next month.  I'm going to blame Mike Woodson.  Maybe I should just stop caring.

Gonna happen. But the FAU loss is instructive for a different reason: USF has been a lousy program forever. They hired a Guy and flipped the script immediately. Leading their conference with 5 new starters.

Yessir. Given IU’s basketball resources it only takes one ‘right’ hire to make things very good for a very, very long time. And that change will be apparent pretty early on if we make the right hire.

Give me a guy in his 30’s or 40’s; the right one is out there. Identify him and let’s roll.

It seems like our coaches and players don't hate losing enough.

yep, its a new age in coaching.  3 year windows instead of 6.  Roster flipping is real.  Pick your leader and get to work.

We may still need more patience than we have shown other coaches.  But a younger guy like May (or similar) I think we would be more willing to let them learn on the job than someone in their late 60's.

I think May and Fife are friends, but loyalty is something any head coach needs in an assistant.  Probably going to be tough for Fife to get an assistant job anywhere.

Remember just because you have millions or billions doesn't mean you know anything about basketball. Also, one family in Bloomington is very loyal to Woodson. Not sure you going to get them on board to get rid of him. They were at the game yesterday and weren't overly disappointed.

That's pathetic.

You bring up a good point, the portal shortens the coaching timeline to get good or you’re on the hot seat.

And for the under-40 crowd, our only memories of Mike Woodson will be Mike Woodson the coach. He won’t be “Mike Woodson the great player,” he’ll be “Mike Woodson the awful coach.”

That probably applies to the under-50 crowed. I'm 46 but was too young to remember him as a player. Someone 4 years older than me might remember him but it would likely be in a vague sense.
