Fire Coach Woodson Thread

He makes good money at Baylor, he's been there forever, they just have a new facility.

He's not well-liked by HS coaches & AAU coaches in Indiana.

Maybe he is and I'm wrong. I wouldn't be mad if he was our coach.

He would be like Crean then in regard to HS coaches and AAU not liking him. We don't need that!

Mike Woodson, good college player lousy college coach.

We play with the energy level of our coach. Lethargic. I was at the game yesterday, and it has turned into an embarrassment. The man has no emotion. He's like the guy you want to sit with at a bar and hear old-time IU stories, not the person leading the charge for a resurgence of a dead program.

Unfortunately, if coach Woodson doesn't realize that he's not the guy to turn Indiana around and resign, my fond memories of Mike Woodson the player will be overshadowed by the mediocrity of Mike Woodson, the coach.

And for the under-40 crowd, our only memories of Mike Woodson will be Mike Woodson the coach. He won’t be “Mike Woodson the great player,” he’ll be “Mike Woodson the awful coach.”

Because guys just don't build something from the ground up, stay 20 years, win a national title, and then up and leave. You for sure talk to him if you're IU but really all that does is likely get him an extension at Baylor. He has everything he needs in Waco and then some. And if we're being honest with ourselves, Baylor IS the better basketball program over Indiana right now and has been for the last several years. Now obviously the perks and rewards of winning at IU far exceed what they do at a school like Baylor, but that probably doesn't matter to somebody like Scott Drew who really has nothing else to prove for himself.

I thought I read somewhere that Georgia tried to hire him last year and he didn't immediately say "no". Maybe it was posturing for a bigger contract at Baylor. Scott lived in Indiana and has to know that it means waaaay more to win at IU than it does at a football school. I am with you, Dolson better at least make the call and make it really hard for him to say "no" or he should be fired from his job.

I just don't think you'll ever see Drew leave Baylor unless there is some writing on the wall where consistently winning at a high level there is no longer feasible. I don't forecast that to be any time soon.

Yes, he did have talks with Georgia. His pay is about the same here. I believe his buyout info is not public knowledge. When he met with Georgia it was because he thought the Big 12 was dying and wanted to get away from it. So that could still be a thing.

Looks like Baylor has had the same AD and President since 2017.  The AD seems to share some similiar values as Drew so that stability could be attractive to stay as well.  But, he would be at the top of my list.  If he does have some bad reputation with the HS and AAU coaches here though that may just as big an issue

Since i don’t think we’ll get a drew, oats, or pearl like I dream of I really just hope Dusty’s team wins out. They are a bad defensive team and I don’t know if it’s because of the scheme or because they play a bunch of 6’2 guys around a slow center. Kind of annoying we start talking about scherz and May and then their teams start losing. Life as a Hoosier fan.

One thing about Drew is he is very open about his religion and that’s a lot easier at Baylor than some other schools. He probably wouldn’t leave but I’d offer him 8 mill to make him think about it

I thought the same thing both FAU and ISU lost this weekend

IU is not going above 5-6 million for a coach unless it is one person. I know everyone says we have money and just go pay whoever but I know we're not going to do that. We don't want to spend the money to buyout Woodson right now

Our best hope is that coach Woodson could be talked into moving to an ambassador role with the Athletic Department.  Let him maintain his current salary and coach can meet and greet big donors.  Imo, firing coach Woodson won't happen (at least for 2 more years), but getting him move into an ambassador role or retire is a much more likely scenario.

Why would a Drew or Pearl leave a comfortable situation that they have built to come to IU?  We have become just another Big Ten team.  That saddens me to write, but it's true.  Bob Knight built something special and we've squandered our inheritance.

There are things a coach can do to entice a coach like Drew or Pearl to come. IU just won’t do those things, so we’ll be stuck picking from the B list of candidates and hoping they work out.

I’m sorry paying woody 4 million to shake some hands and go to games would be crazy even though that’s kind of what we’re doing right now.

If we fire him, we're paying coach his money.  If we get him to retire, the negotiated exit would probably be around 80% of his remaining money.  So, if you're going to have to pay him, why not give him an ambassador role?  You could use his health as a reason to move to this type of role.  Everyone saves face.

Simply put Mike Woodson and Calbert Cheaney were great IU basketball players and leaders of the program as players.
Not coaches at IU.
I will remember them as players.
Not coaches and it’s time for damage control and this failed experiment to end.

Calbert is in an AD position.  He may be on the bench but when it comes to coaching he is the 6th or 7th voice on that bench at best.

So they have the money to pay one man (Stevens I’m assuming) but aren’t willing to spend it on any other elite options?  That right there tells me they aren’t taking this as seriously as they should.
