Seeing Womack on a lot of lists is confusing to me.  Kane is an up & coming Group of 5 coach on a strong trajectory, beyond money why would he want to replace his friend and mentor who was just canned at Indiana?

Don't disagree that he's not a fine coach, but he'd have to recruit the OL really well based on his style at Wisky. He doesn't strike me as having an exciting brand of football to attract athletes out of Florida to result in a very high ceiling at IU. Would very well likely raise the floor from where IU stands currently

Totally fair concern, but to his credit he continually surrounds himself with high caliber assistants who are able to augment his abilities.

Idk, I’ve long stated that Indianas football problem is much greater than it’s coach. It’s a system/administrative problem. Athletes generally win as certain programs have proven over and over. Kansas, UNC, Duke and other non football schools have committed to their programs and have found varying degrees of success. We have to build a culture of desire and want to win but we must improve the talent pool first and foremost.

Just having a new voice won’t be enough. We need the talent too. This is about as much as an uphill climb as it gets.

Firing Allen despite his almost $21M buyout makes it look like IU may actually care about football. Now they need to follow that up with a real coaching search, not another half-a**ed search like they'd done in the past. Dolson needs to get some people who know football and can recognize good coaching to help him out. They also need to be prepared to pay the new head coach and his assistants well. Otherwise, what's the point of paying a bunch of money for a payout just to go cheap on the next hire?

They also need to commit to spending money on upgraded and/or new football facilities soon as well as being willing to spend money on recruiting. This would help convince potential coaches they'll get the support they need to be successful at the least successful P5 program in history.

Justified or not, Fitzgerald's departure at Northwestern was messy and may take him out of the running at IU.

Yes. It'll be his team to build.  IU used to be known as smash mouth during the Mallory days. A team's identity is all about the HC, not the institution.  Program builders turn the identity into an institution and IUFB has never truly had program builders.

Definitely valid, but any coach we're looking at is going to have at least one "Yeah, but...")

He has a proven track record as a successful head coach at the Power 5 level, and familiarity with the B1G. That's pretty much what I would hang my hat on.
