Come on what? When you don't run an offense designed to get shooters open looks you typically don't shoot well. This predates Woodson's tenure. It's not that hard to justify. Blaming the S&C is the easy way out. Start demanding accountability for mental lapses at the line and you'll start to see results. It'd also help if the staff started prioritizing skill over length and athleticism out on the perimeter.
Wasn't there a chart last year or maybe even this year that suggested we were one of the best teams at getting uncontested 3pt shots? The reason was because everyone knew we wouldn't make them.

I am just trying to provide the entire context for why we hired Woody. I think that people forget all of the factors that were in play.
  1. We thought we had Brad Stevens and when bailed on us we were left scrambling.
  2. Juwan Howard had just finished a really good season at Michigan, and we thought we could replicate that.
  3. We brought in a great college basketball mind with Thad Matta to teach Woody the ropes.
  4. We brought in the heir apparent with Dane Fife to take over when Woody left.
  5. Former players were pushing hard for IU to hire Woody.
  6. We just paid a whole lot of money to Archie to leave.
  7. Woody wasn't going to make us back up the Brinks truck
We paid a ton of money to fire archie only to hire a totally unproven college coach who isnt much better than archie. If they thought they had Steven's they needed to be 100% certain or have an actual solid backup plan. Well the old guard got their iu guy so I hope they are all happy as clams.

I'm not thrilled with the results, but I am giving Woodson one gimme year. Next year will tell a lot. We get ample open shot opportunities, just not a great shooting team. Just lost TJD, Race, Kopp, JHS - a little grace for the loss of basically all production sans Gallo. Plenty of things to complain about though :-)

That can’t be right because we had one of the higher 3pt% in the country last year, but we had low attempts. Maybe it’s because we only take uncontested ones?

That's what it was. We were good at shooting them but didn't shoot any. My bad.

I don't know about any chart. It does seem like we make 3 point shots when we're open, most teams do. Problem is that we don't run sets to get shooters open. IU is one of the lowest volume 3 point shooting teams in the land. That should tell you everything you need to know about getting players good looks.

As head coach, it's his responsibility to "restock" the roster continually... clearly he doesn't understand that or doesn't have the ability. And with the product that he trots out there every game, it's no wonder most of the top talent isn't interested... He missed big time on guards from the portal last year, and so far only has Liam coming next year. Queen ain't coming, so next year will be Liam and whatever of this team remains against the world... Woody's time is up. Period.

How many times has Woody said in a presser that we shoot enough 3s, we just got to get better at making them? He must be watching different games than I am.

He is gonna have to make major upgrades to the roster particularly at guard.

He has to add at least 3 guards. Cupps & Galloway have to be guys who can come off the bench or start in a pinch. Not guys who are starting BT basketball games

I think Galloway could start if you have 2 really good guards with him. But he’s a 5th starter at best. As you said a true 6th man

Given he whiffed last year on guards I am not sure why this spring will be and different. Many say results dont matter and players will come anywat  but I beg to differ. I am sure guards look at his style of play and say no thanks. What is going to be his selling point this spring to guards other than we have playing time? I mean sure they can give him another year but that is not going to change what will need to happen. Its a matter of when not if at this point.

He could not even land one guard last spring he will likely have to lower his standards on what he will accept if he is to get three guards this spring. Guys like Dalton K have no interest is coming here.

You think he will up and quit?  I think if he has a bad year he will want to stick around to show an improvement before he would voluntarily leave.

I really don't know what Woodson wants to do.  The question is what does the school want to do?  But speaking for myself I have seen enough of the Woody regime.

Guys like Dalton begged us to tell him on Zoom how much we would pay him, then went to Tennessee and told them. They came up with more and he went there. As I have said two guards from the portal and one HS guard

The installation of the king and his court (coaching staff) for IU men’s basketball.  Great gigs for those guys…status, financial security, and future opportunities if wanted, or semi retirement, or retirement but opportunities abound.
