Some of you really crack me up with your personal wish list of a coach to replace Woody.  Reminds me of getting the Sears Christmas catalog as a kid and dog-earing the pages of the new toys I wanted Santa to bring me.

For my generation it was Toys R Us now it is the Amazon Christmas catalog for my nephews.

Man, I LOVED getting that catalog as a kid. I immediately went to the NFL pages. Had such an awesome selection -- jerseys, full uniforms, helmets, T-shirts, lamps, blankets, towels, etc. I think I still have a blanket with NFL team logos -- back when there were 26 teams, a year or so before the Seahawks and Bucs came into the leage.

Great stuff.

Since this is the rant thread there was nothing worse then delivering those Sears catalogs. lol.    Those things were heavy and EVERYONE got one of them.    So glad those stopped being a thing

He was a complete scramble hire.  Dolson thought he had Stevens in the bag otherwise Archie isn't fired for another year.  Went after Holtmann, Matta, etc first.

So Matta was hired right after Woodson into a non-coaching position. He now coaches at Butler. Yet you say Dolson went after him but got turned down. So for you to be right Matta would've said no to the head coaching job to change his mind shortly after for an admin job. Was he just biding his time until the Butler position opened up again?

Since that doesn't really make any sense, I'm going to go out on a limb and say you're wrong about Matta. If you're wrong about him, you're probably also wrong about Holtmann. I would also add that after his time at OSU, I doubt IU would pursue him. He's an okay coach, that's it.

Yep.   Never had to do the big phone books.  Only phone books we did were the smaller ones.    Nothing worse then showing up in the morning and seeing those Sears  catalogs  lined up at your case.  You knew the next few days were going to stink

Gary Parrish known for not being bias against IU (lol) is the National guy you use to show who they went after.    Guy post crap all the time to piss off IU fans.  Maybe they did go after Holtmann  or maybe they didn’t but Listening to Parrish on the matter would be the last thing I would do.

It's a business not a charity.  The Colts had no problem throwing away an aging Peyton Manning, the best player in franchise history, for what they thought was the next Peyton.   We could easily have the next Brad Stevens here and our current coach is 66 and pretty mediocre.   The fact that this is even a discussion just shows me how lost we are as a program.
Yep 100%

I think so the donor who paid Archie's buyout I doubt was shelling out that money to hire Mike Woodson. I am guessing they expected a much bigger name.

He was hired here to win games and was never thought of it as a 3 or 4 year thing. We have seen plenty of coaches coach into their mid 70's so I don't think Woodson was brought here to just stabilize the program

This goes back to my question, where are you getting that he wasn’t brought in as a 3 or 4 year thing? I have heard otherwise but all hearsay - I imagine this is too?

If you are to believe a lot of folks that were close to things, yes. Not a popular comment but likely true

If that was the plan you would have heard it from the beginning and probably would have brought in a coach in waiting.

Ok, I wasn’t looking for assumptions. I have heard from some folks that work at IU that Woody had no interest nor plans on a second contract and that his plan was to revitalize the program quickly and hand it off in a good place.
So, I have heard that and who is to say there isn’t a coach in waiting already on staff or that they don’t have a plan to bring one in. It’s year 3 of a 6 year contract so there is time. While some have thrown Fife under the bus, I don’t think he was that far off in the things he was saying

The point is that it can be done.

No way on Beard.

So May has had 1 good NCAA run and is so far having a good season but if he didn't have an IU connection would you and a few others still be drooling over him and panicking that another school might hire him first? See above if he is hired somewhere else first.

“No way on Beard”….. curious at to why? Bc he has us winning in year 1 or 2. He’s won EVERYWHERE he’s been and he didn’t need the fanbase to simp for him and “give him time to get things going.”

Beard is elite and as much of a guarantee to win here as they come. More so than May imho.
