It's all opinions. Interesting, would like to know what you are basing this on. He definitely contributed last night.
A conference road game against a bottom feeder most likely.

JHS stepped up earlier this year.  Clearly working his way to leadership, if no already there.

Leadership - largely missing.  No "go to guy" that is Mr. Clutch.

Therein lies the problem.  We don't have the horses, yet.  The jury is out whether we end up with them or not eventually.  Every team we struggle against, they have those guys -- 2 or 3 players that are great all around or absolutely experts in one area of the game (ie; 3 pt. shooters).  We have an incomplete team, full of incomplete players.  Not time to panic yet, as it's only Woody's second year.  He chose to keep the team together when he arrived.  Could be the right decision, but could be the wrong decision.  But we have to build from here.  Next year, a lot of the old guard drops off, plus at least one transfer.  I hope for big changes in culture and whatnot next year.

JHS/Reneau/Cupps/Newton/Gunn maybe a reclassification + formidable transfers.

Some seem down on the prospects of next year. I am not. We will have a strong young nucleus with what should be the best pg in the Big Ten…JHS. Then again, we all say this every year…regardless, I’m OK with the roster turnover that will take place after this year.

Currently we don't have much coming in though.  Newton and Cupps could be good future pieces but I don't see either playing a lot as freshman.  We have no 5* or bigs on the way as it stands.

Don’t forget…we have the transfer portal now. Expect some high impact transfers. Also, won’t sugar coat it…we need some personnel on this current team to transfer too to make room. They ain’t cutting it.

We could probably cut some dead weight with assistants... Cause they don't seem to be making any differences either.

Multiple thoughts after last night:

1. Woodson did not inherit this culture but has been unable to fix it so far. At the moment Teri Moren, Todd Yeagley, and Ray Looze are only coaches at IU that have created winning cultures and as a result they can and do win through any injuries or adversities. Woodson so far has done nothing to change a downtrodden culture in the men's basketball program even though he did not create it.

2. If Woodson's MO is defense he needs to make sure that is always strong. If this is his fundamental belief the team cannot be regressing defensively as it if he want to be the coach here long term. Just ask Chris Ballard who has drafted relatively strong but his fundamental belief is offensive line which has turned into a huge failure. I don't care how much other areas improve while Woodson is coach. If the D is not elite under him, this program will not succeed during his tenure and he will be out in a couple yrs if his fundamental belief (defense) collapses.

3. IU athletic department as a whole needs to stop feeding into the hype and promoting winning before it happens. Whether it be football in 2021 or basketball this year, IU athletics as a whole was more than willing to embrace the preseason hype. The department needs to back off and do a lot more under promising and over delivering. Just ask the Pacers this year. Right now Dolson and his staff are doing way to much feeding into the hype and it needs to stop.

4. Speaking of Dolson I have a nagging feeling he might go down as the worst hire since Michael McNeely was athletic director. He didn't hire Tom Allen but the extension was beyond a problem and Woodson could flop big time. At moment the two main sports (football and men's basketball) have not been in this bad of a shape since the Dinardo/Davis Era in early 2000's and Dolson created it. The sports his predecessors made strong are still strong, but he is tanking the two biggest ones with decisions which while not indefensible are certainly backfiring at the moment.

5. Sometimes things look darkest before the light comes on and sometimes the light at the end of the tunnel is a train. I hope it is the former but very much fear it is the latter. If that is the case, the sports just a tier below football and basketball will continue to thrive but the two most important ones will struggle. That is very much happening at Nebraska currently (albeit which ones are thriving is slightly different) and IU is unfortunately in that boat at the moment it looks like.

Spot on per usual

I’d also argue contrary to popular Crimson Colored opinions our assistant coaches are underwhelming.

Sure, they recruit hard as heck. Return on dividends has been sorely lacking. Transfer portal is the next huge test. 2024/2025 looks promising, however 2023 at one point looked promising. Grade-TBD

On court? Who knows. The results and play fall on all the coaches shoulders. Mostly underperforming. Strategy/game planning is almost always a miss.

Development? Meh…

Basketball IQ? Woof…..

We might have the nicest, most likeable group of assistants though. I mean, that counts for something. If they could produce and win, it would be nice. I want to love these guys. But the ultimate scorecard is on the scoreboard.

I thought we had a path forward to get through the X injury. Not great but we have options and JHS played pretty well. Race is a different story. Even though I’ve been a critic of Race we have no real replacement unless Reneau suddenly has the light come on. Have a feeling MR will be getting a lot of attention in practice.

According to a teaser on Peegs, there has been some “encouraging chatter,” whatever that means.

Ugh. Peegs and his team with the annoying cryptic sayings.

I think "bigs" are over rated in todays game.  We have had "bigs" for the last several years.  Our opponents just shoot lights out over us.  We need solid bigs but not necessarily studs.  I for one think Logan can step up and work (I hope), plus Renuae.  And we can chase the 5* dream until we are blue in the face -- it would be nice, but sometime they seem misclassified (see KL).  The key to success is players working together in a system for the betterment of the team.  Until we get back to "elite" status, we need to focus on the right players, rather than the best players.

I know we have the transfer portal.  We needed shooters last year and didn't get one, so I'm skeptical how much impact we'll get from there realistically.  There are some players I wouldn't be upset about if they left, but the team isn't any better if they're replaced with equal or lesser so next year could be really bad because we'll have a lot of production leaving and a bunch of unknowns.

Didn't Dakich say awhile back there were 4 players at other programs who wanted to come here, but Woodson told them he wanted to keep the team together and we didn't have room? I wonder if any of those four, whoever they are, could be targets in the spring.

Courtney Green needs to answer some questions. He called the ball toss T on JG. Then he’s the one who ushers Franimal back into his cage while the other official calls Fran’s second T. This happened with Green’s back turned. Then he comes back and somehow that tech is rescinded? I don’t know man. After watching the Tim Donaghy documentary I don’t put anything past officials.
