For me, I'm just tired of getting bullied by the same teams year after year. The Archie Miller teams were soft as sh*t, and when teams like Rutgers pushed them around, they just sat back and took it. I thought we were finally moving on from that and once again had a team whose toughness we could take pride in, then yesterday happened. It's like working tirelessly to house-train a new puppy and thinking you've finally done it, then you get up one morning and step in a puddle of urine.

Fixed it for ya.

Really thought this is where you were originally going and was a little disappointed. I guess we did kind of pee down our leg a little when things didn't go our way.

I've had pets before, and trust me, cleaning up poop is preferable to pee, especially when it's on a rug.

Are we recruiting the right people to not be soft. I don't see Newton as soft, Gunn I don't think, others I am not sure about yet? We need people with an edge, I just hope we get there. X plays that way at times. Hope this was an anomaly but makes you think.

It's not just playing with an edge but includes all of the preparation leading up to the actual playing. Race has looked a bit disinterested to start the season, after facing adversity throughout the game Trayce wanted nothing to do with the end of the game, XJ looks like he wants to fight some mfers most games after a bit of yapping back and forth, Kopp was hitting shots and fumbling rebounds or face guarding while attempting to block out. That's not a recipe for winning basketball.

*Note this is not jumping off the IU men's basketball wagon. We have quite a bit of talent and plenty of time to figure it out. We looked like ********* for a lot of the Big 1.o play last season before winning a few games in the conference tourney. We added physical talent but the leadership is much of the same.

Bottom line is this team will not win with both X and TJD not providing offense. You can win with just one of them but someone else has to show up (Kopp yesterday). Had TJD came out and got his normal 21 and 9 then this game could have been won. Or if X gets 18-6-5-0or1 then this game could have been won. They both crapped the bed and when that happens IU will lose.

Really think people are just under appreciating what a difference JHS makes, the offense is much, much better with him and then there’s the simple fact that he’s been one of our best defensively.
Yes, it was a lousy team performance, but we were missing a key player on both sides of the ball and it was our first without him. Not going to buy into all the handwringing that comes out here the second the team has a bad game. Team will move on, but we need JHS back

Rutgers beats a lot of teams yesterday. They collectively came out ready to play physical and hit a lot of junk shots. We got a reality check. CMW will use this as a teaching moment. Missing JHS hurt to an extent. Not going to define the team by this loss. Road wins in the B1G are hard to come by.

I wasn't just meaning this one poster jumping ship and I just get tired of after losses people losing their minds. Not just saying this board but I only see certain posters post after losses and never see them when things are going good.
Just to clarify I am not jumping ship. Was just stating that they cannot have those kind of performances and be a good team. That is all

The advantage IU and other B1G teams will have is that the conference will be so good that teams are going to have more losses but will still able to get high seeds.  The margin of error will be bigger for the conference than it would be for other conferences.   For example the Zags probably already have taken themselves out of a 1 and maybe 2 seed discussion with their losses already.   They won’t have many more opportunities to get quality wins whereas last year for example the Big 12 was stacked.   Texas Tech got a 3 seed despite having 9 losses heading into the tourney.   6 of those losses were road conference games.

Through 8 games I think we have a good to very good team. I don't think it is a great team. Race, Tamar, and Jordan have been somewhat of a disappointment to me so far. We'll only go as far as those guys can take us. As good as TJD is, he sometimes shrinks from the moment. We did not bring defensive intensity against Rutgers and without that we will struggle most nights in the conference. Plenty of time to course correct, but I was expecting more than we got yesterday.

I think we are slightly overrated. We added two freshmen basically and that’s it from last season. It’s hopes and prayers that college kids can develop a jumper in the off-season. It can be done, but it’s not likely.

You can’t rely on freshmen to save the season, it clearly hasn’t worked out for Kentucky. This team has depth indeed, but when things are bad, they are BAD.

I still think this is a very good team, but a passive Trayce, half asleep Race and zero production from Galloway, Tamar and Geronimo is a recipe for disaster. Trayce is human, and he's going to have games where he's off, but our depth must be a factor in those games. Kopp was the only one who brought anything last game, and we still had a chance to cut it to 6 (missed TJD foul) late in the game and make a run.

I hope I am wrong....but I don't foresee a ton of games where everyone but Kopp disappears and we don't have JHS.

Woody needs to keep an eye on this dude. He rebounded better than any of our guys Saturday.
Wouldn't take much of an NIL deal -- a box of Milk Bones a week or so!

Think he’d get t’d up and tossed quickly for barking at the other team though

If Crean or Archie were still in charge I'd be extremely worried about an emotional letdown in the team and getting waxed but I think Woody knows how to make sure that doesn't happen.  Keep it rollin' Hoosiers!

Looks like that happened!

I agree with everything you said but Race is the one hurting us the most.  He has had only one decent game but most of this year, he has disappeared.  Not the same player he was last year, hesitating on  taking wide open 3’s is killing us and it’s making it obvious to the opposing team that he has no confidence shooting that shot.

Also, the leadership was lacking in this game but overall, this loss is on Woodson. He kept playing the same rotations and combinations and should have tried putting Trayce, Kopp and our 3 best 3 point shooters on the floor.  I’m not saying it would have worked, but try it. Having Reneau or Race on the floor with Trayce definitely didn’t work.

It is mistake to single out one player. The problem is not one guy. Race Thompson played 17 minutes Saturday (fewer than usual) with Reneau and Geronimo playing in place of him quite a bit of the time. Race was 0-3 from 3-point range but so was Geronimo. And so was Bates. Galloway missed every shot he took including 2 3's and 2 free throws. Kopp was 5 for 9 from 3. The rest of the team was 1 for 16 from 3. Every team Indiana plays this season will try to pack it in on IU's interior players forcing the rest of the team to shoot from the perimeter. This is a coaching challenge but the players simply have to make shots. Unfortunately, this team has too many poor shooters. Either these guys start hitting shots or it will be a very disappointing season.

Guys, off the ledge.  This was a let down game.  It shouldn't but it happens.  They played the biggest game of their lives three days prior.  It's probably a good thing -- it will get them focused for the rest of the season.  Carry on.

Many places to go with this one but I'd guess the Big 1.o and NCAA tourney games were slightly bigger than a noncon home game against a flailing UNC team. That's not to say the Rutger game wasn't important as the players certainly knew it was but I wouldn't put it in the same category as season on the line games.

Nah.  Nobody expected anything from those tourney games.  Heck, they weren't even expected to be in it.  The UNC game, however, was hyped since last year when scheduled, facing the national runner up, with IU's new recruits and return of TJD, et. al.  Both teams ranked high.  First big time, national exposure game in Assy Hall in a long time.  A game that measures the progress of the program under Woodson.

No regular season game is bigger than a tournament game
