The lack of actual uniform regulation with the still relatively new NIL/Portal era of college ball is problematic in multiple ways. What I find funny about this whole situation is… Most of these 5th year guys would generate more excitement to these programs. Possibly generating more revenue/ratings. Also I think it’s leveling the competitive balance. Having Sam Alexis I think we are a true top 6 in the Big 10 team. As a fan of Indiana University basketball I would love to have Sam Alexis back and rather have him than not. skhoosier2 and HoosierHoopster 2 Quote

IMO, 5 for 5 solves a lot at the NCAA level... it's just dumb that they excluded c/o 2022 for no reason. NIL I think should be regulated by the conferences. What that looks like exactly, I don't really know or particularly care. I don't know how realistic it is to restrict the amount of times a player transfers. And my unpopular take is that I don't hate unlimited transfers at all to be honest. Quote

Colleges& Universities Time will tell. If we don’t get him, the Sokolov decision will be painful all season long. If Yigi and Sherrill are lucky enough to stay healthy that’ll go a long way, but it’s a huge presumption and expectation. Sisley at the 4 a fair amount will be the move. Quote

I think that was always the plan. I can’t emphasize enough how odd it would be for Devries to play two bigs all game. I don’t think he’s ever done it before. Tbf, when I went back through some of his old rosters I wasn’t real familiar with all the players and was using things like height/rebounding rate as proxies for post players. But he seemingly has always played a 4-out style. I suspect he was happy Alexis fell in his lap, but I never thought it was some grand plan. Sisley is hopefully up for the task because he should get plenty of minutes. Quote

It's as if the NCAA is being punitive to the class of 2022, which makes no sense at all given the recent precedent of COVID years and 6th years being granted. Why single out that one particular class and punish them for no good reason? I struggle to describe that as anything but flat out stupid. The NCAA is going to NCAA. It's what they do. This is classic NCAA. Napleshoosier, HoosierHoopster and Home Jersey 3 Quote

College basketball at IU simply doesn’t have the interest it did, even as recently as five years ago. I just checked another board that hasn’t had a post about IU hoops for about a week; even at the slowest season we’ve got multiple people a day discussing IU hoops. FWIW, when IU bball took the Peru trip this summer the board was hopping for hoops. Home Jersey and mamasa 2 Quote

Yeah hold on there a sec Stu, it's not that IU doesn't have the interest it did in basketball, it's that there hasn't been much to talk about with zero happening in basketball right now. Nice that we're a football powerhouse right now, but that doesn't mean we suddenly lost interest in bball, lol Quote

Ask any current student and they'll tell you their experience is that IU is a football school and basketball is largely an afterthought. That would of course change with commensurate winning. It's the offseason so of course not much to discuss. I think it's safe to say the board is most active around coach hiring / firings and game days. I would bet that excluding coach hiring / firing, IU basketball discussion online has been steadily declining over the past 10 years. Definitely in comparison to football. str8baller 1 Quote

Primarily, the culture and success of Cig; even in the portal era I feel like we've really gotten to know the IUFB players. Also, not only has IUBB been 'mid' for a very long time, with both Archie and Devries it hasn't been a very interesting version of mid. At least with Woody mediocrity was also combined with highly volatile and inflamed story lines. Quote

Basketball only hung on through its mediocrity because football was so bad. Good…nay Great!…Football will push mediocre basketball right off the stage. Even in Indiana. I’m mid 40’s and barely remember our last basketball title. I was the same age as these college kids for OUR LAST FINAL FOUR. There’s literally nothing anchoring anyone under 30 to IU basketball over football. I’m happy for the students though. It’s cool to have a big thing on campus that everyone is into. Football in general is just way more popular of a sport than college basketball. Even if the programs were in comparable standing, I think football interest would exceed basketball. Then add in the fact that people under the age of 30 have never experienced a stable IU basketball program, and it’s not surprise at all. Home Jersey and Stuhoo 2 Quote

I think if both teams were national championship caliber it would be really close. But it’s not even close in terms of success right now. Quote
