Would that affect Alexis for us if the pass one for basketball?  I am sorry I didn't follow what he did after the season ended.

"The Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday the unanimous adoption of a conference rule to prohibit football players who have signed a professional contract, were on a professional roster at any point or declared for the NFL Draft as an underclassman without withdrawing, from maintaining eligibility for athletic competition at a conference institution," the league said. "The conference continues to evaluate potential rules restricting professional athletes in other sports from conference competition."

Did he sign a contract?  I think he just played in the Summer League while Luis was actually traded like he was on the team.

My very amateur opinion is that the Summer League is akin to rookie mini camps and since Alexis was back with IU by the end of July for the Peru trip, I'll take it the Thunder didn't offer a G-League or 2-way deal after the Summer League schedule.

Can any of BTB's greatest legal minds opine on the likelihood of an appeal succeeding?

There's no reason class of 2022 shouldn't get the 5 for 5 rules. The NCAA is hellbent on doing the dumbest thing possible at every turn. It's a clown show.

Without having read any of the case, you’re always looking at long odds getting one of these reversed. Quite frankly, I’m surprised the NCAA got this one reversed on appeal just based on the odds.

You’re sort of seeing the politics of this thing shift in real-time, imo. But all states/circuits will be different and it might be a mess for the next few years.

I'm probably not considering something obvious, and definitely way oversimplifying, but with the direction of travel being what it is... what's to stop the B10 and SEC from just agreeing to their own conference's rules on eligibility and ignoring the court order / threats from the NCAA at this rate?

I am so completely, utterly, irrevocably and, any other synonym you care to insert, over this. Either let all the ‘22’s play or keep them all out, but it has to end.

I think this is the problem. It won’t be that way. (2-3 states will grant it.) If I were IU I go ahead with the guys on the team. Im guessing Alexis probably won’t win. Just need to plan for life without him.

Ignoring the NCAA? They could declare them ineligible and vacate games. They could exclude teams from March Madness. Technically they can’t do anything about the CFB playoff but it would set up a showdown with the other major players like ESPN and the other conferences.

For the courts: the parties are just the players and NCAA so I’m not sure if the conferences or individual teams are bound in a way that could get them held in contempt of court for violating an order. I want to say no, but then again I’m looking at this from 30k feet and haven’t really kept up with the particulars of the litigation.

Honestly, I seriously doubt you see schools challenge the courts on this since the NCAA has finally shifted something in their favor and most of the schools seem to be begging for some regulation even if it is the NCAA’s haphazardly constructed rules.

I'm sure we won't see it happen and you're right the schools will probably accept any form of regulation at this point, but with how quickly the conferences all set their own rules to ban players that signed pro contracts, I wish the ADs would keep that momentum going and tell the NCAA to shove it, we're all playing our 5th year guys and good luck punishing all of us (as long as they wouldn't be getting into legal trouble for violating the orders). The NCAA needs them more than the schools need the NCAA.

Just a pipe dream though. I'm bummed big time to not have Alexis on the team. Makes me less excited for the season.

Lane Kiffin and Will Wade.

That’s the problem we won’t get Alexis but 2/3 other states players will win and get those players. Yigi will have to step up

Just ridiculous to have some 5th years playing based on whichever jurisdiction they brought a case in vs. others sitting because of a different ruling.

It's as if the NCAA is being punitive to the class of 2022, which makes no sense at all given the recent precedent of COVID years and 6th years being granted. Why single out that one particular class and punish them for no good reason? I struggle to describe that as anything but flat out stupid.

Pure speculation. This is simply a wait and see at this point.

And why uniform regulation is badly needed. The lack of actual uniform regulation with the still relatively new NIL/Portal era of college ball is problematic in multiple ways.
