I've watched the game 2 more times today, and reviewed the box score as well. A few things jumped out at me.

We only had 12 assists on 36 baskets. That's below average in my book. Had 16 turnovers. Unacceptable, even with the pressure. 

Very few block outs. More rebounding by "zone" rather than blocking out. Only shot 33% from 3, 53% from FT line.

We only set 3 screens in the first half, and 3 in the 2nd. Hardly a receipe to get good, open looks. And we didn't, especially in the 2nd half.

I counted 5 really bad shots that we took. Not bad, but certainly didn't help, especially when it was close.

Defense wasn't that bad in the 2nd half. The offense got lazy. Wasn't near as intense.

Thank God for Geronimo's energy in the 2nd half. Got us going again.

Lots of room for improvement, but glad we won. (And kudo's for Lander. Did a good job coming in cold)

I like a lot of what I've seen so far.

Like:

- Woodson taking responsibility in post-games for style of play. CTC never did, Archie sort of did his last two years.

- Our coaching staff. I have so much more confidence with Dane on our sideline along with Woody. Yasir for player development and recruiting along with Kenya. 

- Armond Hill and Thad Matta as "consultants" on staff is huge as well. Credit to Woodson and Scott.

- Retaining Race, Jordon, Kristian, and Rob. Credit to Archie staff as well, these are great / solid players and of course TJD. 

What I'm worried about

- Our spacing when teams take away Parker and Kopp. They both seem to be players who can't put the ball on the floor, that scares me in the Big Ten. Parker will get picked on defensively in B1G play. 

- We appear "deep" but I'm not so sold on that offensively. Rob and Kristian are both up and down. Has Galloway improved his shooting? We'll see.

- We need to be a defensive first team imo. Rob, Jordan, and Galloway are all solid defenders who we need to count on off the bench to turn that defense into transition offense. 

 

I like what I've seen so far. I wish our non-conference was more challenging, hopefully that doesn't bite us in the butt come February and March. 

 

 

 

Don't think we have to worry about Trey's shot, he's going to miss the next two months at least.

He didn't act like it was broken. Hopefully, it's only a small fracture and not a break.

It's his left (non-shooting) wrist/hand, no? Seems if I remember him sitting on the bench with his left hand wrapped up, but am not 100 percent sure.

If so, I'm guessing he can still practice and perhaps even work on his shooting while sidelined ... He'll come back fresh for the latter half of the B1G season. 

Just trying to find some positive in a crappy situation.

If it's his non-shooting hand that would far less-worse.

I believe his high school injury was to his shooting wrist.

  And I'm sure it was his right hand, the same hand/wrist he had problems with in high school.

No, no, no.  You well may be right.  But my recollection is seeing his right hand wrapped when he returned to the bench.  Does the right hand know what the left hand is doing?

I know a lot of people are not happy with Rob but to me it seemed like we went on a stretch where no one was moving at all and Rob didn’t have many places to go or options to pass to once he broke the pressure at half court. I would have to go back and watch that second half meltdown to be certain but I didn’t think all of it was on Rob and some of the blame could be put on everyone just standing around while guarded. I hope Lander is the options but man his defense is so bad. As soon as they checked it they went at him like he was the junior high kid playing with the high schoolers on the park courts. They probably should have went at him more but seemed to go elsewhere after the first few possessions he checked in.

There’s really no reason to expect his offense to be better than it has been in his extensive IU career. He’s a senior who is no better offensively now than he was when he was a freshman. Last night was yet another game where he gave us 0 points. 

One of the things I like about this team is Rob can sit when he decides to not show up and we have solid other options at guard.
