Class of '66 Old Fart

(2022) - PF Noah Clowney to Alabama

Recommended Posts

I think Noah picks us. If we can't beat out Virginia Tech for a basketball recruit then I don't know what to say. But this is for Old Fart

I’ve got that feeling as well. Someone needs to tell him to stop “Clown”ing around and pick Indiana already…….

I'm guessing he will take all 4 visits since they are all free but he'll know where he is going after the weekend.

I still liked it but feel you just put the kids of death on it with that dad joke. I did a similar one for sensabaugh and he dumped us a week later

With (presumably) another year of Durr and Duncomb I don't think Clowney is vital, but I sure like all the potential. Nothing like an athletic big.

I kinda wish we were the last visit, so you know what you are closing against- hope he has his doors blown off this weekend.

Lol. Worth the risk for a cheesy dad joke? I feel oddly confident in this recruitment. Closing time…

If we're first or second, we become the benchmark. If we're last, we still blow his doors off. Win-win ! (unless of course, he's all about himself and only looking for the spot light).  But one could argue IU's spot light is one of the brightest. He may score more points elsewhere, but won't get the media attention he will at IU.

IU probably should beat out Virginia Tech for a basketball recruit every time and twice on Sunday but as most of you know real recruiting just doesn’t work that way.   So many factors go into a recruitment.   In my opinion IU is in really good shape but the other 3 all have good arguments.   Geographically speaking, Iu is the odd man out.   Recruiting a kid from the South this might be a vote in the negative column.   Virginia Tech is confident because I believe I read on one of their premium boards that their head coach is really good friends with Clowneys high school coach.    Relationships matter.  I know he is a coach Ya kid but I’m not sure how long of relationship they actually had before coach Ya offered.   I thought I read Clowney say in an interview that he first met coach Ya when he offered.     Having said all that I believe IU is in a really good spot but I would never count out the geographic aspect of the recruitment

You pay for content on a VA Tech premium board?  Good grief usps, you're addicted.

Good take. I read a few years ago that a study proved geography was the single biggest factor in Football recruiting. Maybe not to the same extent, but gotta be a major aspect in Basketball too.

This reminds me that Ken Pomeroy had an intern who did, like, a college senior stats thesis building a college basketball recruiting projection system. Pretty sure geography was the strongest factor, then program prestige, winning, and probably beneath all that, positional need.

I think it used to be linked from Ken’s site but I don’t think it is any longer.

I think that’s certainly true and I imagine there are few fan bases that can speak to geographical pull like fans of Indiana colleges. But for other reasons geography can sometimes have the opposite effect. A few years ago Archie was recruiting a kid from St Louis named Jerichole Hellems. There was a lot of local pressure for him to pop for Mizzou. I reached out to someone I know who’s close to the Chaminade program about what he thought would happen with Hellems and he said the kid had some home issues, that Mizzou had no shot, and he wanted as far away as he could get. He ended up at NC St.

We’re bordering on off topic again but I’m curious about this thesis. It would be interesting to see this divided into “levels” of programs. Dook has pulled quite a few from everywhere (Chicago, St. Louis, NJ, etc.). I could see this being somewhat of a factor for mid- and low-major programs.

It’s like that ******* commercial that most of your auto accidents occur within 5 miles of home. Well know **** dipshit!

(Just checking filters again, I’ll send the bill)

I think that’s a good call out 60% or more schools can’t afford to recruit nationally.  So of course the vast amount of recruits would be relatively local.

I will mention that The Daily Hoosier reported back in April that Rosemond trained Clowney before he took the IU assistant job. It's mentioned at the very end of the article linked below.

https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/iu-basketball-recruiting-hoosiers-offer-emerging-2022-south-carolina-forward-noah-clowney/

So it seems there was a prior connection between the two parties before Clowney was offered by IU. But as you mentioned... who knows how long Rosemond trained him before then and how deep that connection is? That could make a difference.

I've always kinda viewed Banks and Clowney as two guys we had a really good chance of landing in the end with the Rosemond connection and I still feel that way. I have no inside information but just reading the recruiting tea leaves I'd agree with you and say we're in a good spot with this one.

I think the daily Hoosier might of been misinformed on that one.  I just watched an old peegs video interview with Noah from June where Rabby asked if coach Ya worked him out before and said  he didn’t know Coach Ya before he called after the Atlanta weekend  but he thought coach Ya knew his AAU coach and he might of saw him workout before
