TadQueasy Posted March 11 Posted March 11 The only thing that gives me hope at this point is I just cannot fathom Dolson tying his tenure to Brownell. The Cig love/support is only going to carry him so far. Eventually he has to get this basketball program fixed or his tenure will be a failure. And I am confident he knows this. theriverpilot, taco corp and Kentuckysucks 3

I get the benefit in the sense of, telling different people different info lets you see who may be leaking stuff. But I don't think, particularly as we near the end of March, people are being told to suggest McCollum or Brownell as smokescreens. I would just assume it's probably McCollum at this point and Brownell name being tagged to make it feel better for people. Again I'm probably just being way too simple lol Or it's the other way around. It's Brownell and McCollum's name is being tagged to make people feel that IU chose the more experienced coach. The one who had coached in the ACC a long time. Either way, I think these convoluted smokescreen ideas are just wild. In fact, I don't think IU is using ANY smokescreens. I think they've just talked to a few coaches through their search firm. THAT'S the smokescreen. Due diligence. cybergates and Home Jersey 2

Scotty R Posted March 11 Posted March 11 The last few years I stayed part of the problem in our coaching searches are because of the fan base. Our fan base is great but also can be a hindrance as well. I see posters say certain candidates can't handle the demands and stress of this job. My question what makes our job more demanding and stressful than other top jobs. On the court basketball is basketball no matter where you are at. So the only thing that could make it more demanding is the off the court stuff and isn't part of that is the fan base high expectations and wanting the coach to be out there in the public eye. I am not saying it is the only problem but we need to look at ourselves in the mirror and see that we might be a small part of the problem getting better coaches to come here That plus that top coaches don't leave their current jobs Withnail, Hoosierfan2017, CSP and 2 others 1 2 2

Hornsby Posted March 11 Posted March 11 So we're flying empty planes out to Clemson now just to act as a smokescreen? So today it appears today ole-what’s-eez-name is the guy. Good lord if dolson really hired him all the cig love dolson walks on water stuff would be gone imo. Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk
Hoosierfan2017 Posted March 11 Posted March 11 21 minutes ago, Home Jersey said: Too much of a blanket statement for me... I am not saying it will take 9 years. But this is Dolson's legacy hire and the program needs stability after 3 coaches in the past 9 seasons. They're going to give the next guy the benefit of the doubt as long as the fanbase can withstand it. They'll either grow to love him or hate him like Archie and Woody when he wears out his welcome lol. JMO I don’t think the fanbase can withstand more than a year maximum of it. There are too many examples of coaches coming in and winning right away in the portal/NIL era for people to be ok with a rebuild. That combined with IU’s last 9 years (which aren’t the new coach’s fault but will affect the fanbase’s patience) will lead to the new coach feeling some heat from the fanbase if he doesn’t make the tournament his first year. Even Woodson did that and he’s probably the laziest P5 coach in the country. Now I don’t think the administration gives two craps about what the fanbase thinks, but Dolson is deluding himself if he thinks he’s going to get patience from it. taco corp and Home Jersey 2

Clemson isn't an easy place to win and during his time there, he competed against some really good ACC teams. His win percentage at Clemson is similar to that of Rick Barnes when he was there and Brownell has been there much longer. He is a good coach, you can't take that away from him and that is what we have sorely missed here the last 4 years. If you gave any average coach 16 years at Clemson, he would likely have the same type of results Brownell has had. 53% conference win percentage, 60% overall. 4 NCAA Tournament appearances with 2 Sweet 16s and 1 Elite 8. That's nothing special at all. Certainly nothing there to indicate he's going to have greater success with greater resources. moyemayhem, Sobchak_Security, VFury and 1 other 4
